Kerridge has provided an excellent article on the interface betw een the operating company and the contractor to define all requirements in complete and standardized detail. This includes who is responsible for every deliverable. The operating company and contractor must work as a team. An example of one area that needs to be reviewed often with the contractor is the provision of secondary systems as packages, perhaps from a third party. Such systems can easily become orphans. This problem is discussed in the Process Definition section of Chapter 16. [Pg.247]

Summing up, a robust and easy to handle SMB-design uses 4 zones, a recycling pump fixed in respect to the columns and two pumps for the control of the outlet flow rates. Extremely high precision of all technical components of the SMB is needed. All pumps and valves have to be exactly synchronized. The flow rates should not vary by more thanl % from the preset value. All connections between the different parts of the system must be carefully optimized in order to minimize the dead volume. All columns should be stable and nearly identical in performance. If the SMB-technology is to be used in Biotechnology, GMP issues (cleaning, process and software validation) also have to be considered. In addition and as with any continuous process in that particular area, the definition of a batch could be a problem. [Pg.217]

The solvent extraction process has not yet undergone pilot plant investigation, and all the above estimates are based on small laboratory or bench scale experiments. If further testing under practical conditions substantiates the laboratory observations, it appears that the solvent extraction process definitely has an area of specialization in the over-all saline water conversion program. [Pg.52]

Because the NELAC standards are general, they require interpretation or clarification in certain areas of application. That is why the US DOD undertook a task of specifying some of these broad areas in definite terms in a manual that unifies laboratory requirements of the Navy, Air Force, and United States Army Corps of Engineers (DOD, 2000). This manual, titled Department of Defense Quality Systems Manual for Environmental Laboratories, is offered to the DOD representatives and contractors who design, implement, and oversee contracts with environmental laboratories. Currently, the three DOD branches implement their own laboratory accreditation programs with some reciprocity between the three a task force has been created to combine these programs into a single DOD accreditation process. [Pg.185]

The migration of moisture will be accompanied by the migration of water-soluble salts, which may lead to hydration-rehydration cycles over much wider areas. All these processes definitely weaken this already fragile tomb and will lead to its further degradation. Therefore, traditional methods must clearly be reevaluated in the development of a conservation scheme for this site. [Pg.299]

Therefore, it is the first task of the business process owner to define which records under his area of responsibility are electronic records and which not. The best approach is to have a defined and documented business process. Then the records growing out of this process can be determined. In the next step, systems supporting the process are identified, and records in the system assessed. The business process definition will also be needed as a basis for the record risk assessment and validation activities of a system. An example on how this can be documented is given in Fig. 2. [Pg.5]

Two XML-based integration tools have been built in the area of process management. The first translates AHEAD (cf. Sect. 3.4) process definitions into the petri net dialect used as workflow language by the commercial workflow management tool COSA [615]. The second handles the import of workflow definitions made with WOMS (cf. Sect. 2.4) into AHEAD. Both made use of the XML transformation language XSLT [602]. [Pg.263]

The process area (bottom) contains the concepts needed to describe the process steps which modify the artifacts. This comprises process definitions or actions which can be enacted (method fragments), process traces resulting from enactment, and users who guide the enactment. [Pg.387]

A sole provision of an international standard without any instructions on how to use it will have little value. Therefore, a process definition with several concrete use cases is fundamental for successful implementation of such an initiative. In this context, an extensive research of the downstream processes has been conducted to find the areas where the use of JT rather than native CAD data is of potential interest [9, 10]. [Pg.295]

Molds may be either male (raised) or female (recessed). Female molds are preferred, with plug assist process. A female mold will provide a thicker flange area, sharp definition on the outside area, and easy ejection. A male mold is usually cheaper to construct and provides for a deeper draw. Disadvantages include a tendency to web, form a weak flange area, and provide an extremely difficult release. [Pg.79]

This interplay between structural scales places great demands on both the designers of materials and on the development of processing routes to provide shaped objects for end users. This introduces the requirement to define what morphologies are required at different structural scales. This is an area where definitions and standardization have yet to appear. [Pg.329]

Other Separation Processes. The final type of phase equilibrium I d like to mention could be titled unusual separation processes—adsorption, ion exchange, membranes. The individuals Involved in these areas are definitely non-computer people. There are no models in the present computer system which satisfy their particular needs, but more importantly, they can t recommend any that should be added to the system. They firmly believe that empirical correlations based on experimental data are best. For new systems, they use a similarity approach based on previous experience. They volunteered the opinion that an analysis with a... [Pg.80]

Internal tensions induced during the manufacturing process definitely influence the properties of polyolefin containers and bottles. Conditioning of container specimens is very important because at temperatures higher than the glass transition temperature Tg, the elastic area increases as a result of the partial elimination of these tensions. [Pg.914]

The software development process in our company is composed of the following activities 0) request from a business area 1) process definition 2) requirements analysis 3) software design (logical and physical) 4) software construction, making... [Pg.677]

A low temperature of approach for the network reduces utihties but raises heat-transfer area requirements. Research has shown that for most of the pubhshed problems, utility costs are normally more important than annualized capital costs. For this reason, AI is chosen eady in the network design as part of the first tier of the solution. The temperature of approach, AI, for the network is not necessarily the same as the minimum temperature of approach, AT that should be used for individual exchangers. This difference is significant for industrial problems in which multiple shells may be necessary to exchange the heat requited for a given match (5). The economic choice for AT depends on whether the process environment is heater- or refrigeration-dependent and on the shape of the composite curves, ie, whether approximately parallel or severely pinched. In cmde-oil units, the range of AI is usually 10—20°C. By definition, AT A AT. The best relative value of these temperature differences depends on the particular problem under study. [Pg.521]

To distinguish between a review and an audit, some definitions will be provided. A review is a critical examination or evaluation of any operation, procedure, condition, event, or equipment item. Reviews can take many forms and be identified as project reviews, design reviews, safety reviews, pre-start-up reviews, and so on. The following discussion of the review process will deal with project reviews associated with capital projects and focus on the area of process safety. [Pg.2283]

The Center for Chemical Process Safety s projects fall into a number of general topic areas that comprise a comprehensive program. These topic areas include identification of hazards and analysis of risks, prevention and mitigation of the hazards identified, and better definition of areas affected by a release of hazardous materials. This book is the latest in the series dealing with hazard identification and risk analysis. [Pg.281]
