Application to laboratories

The terminology used in this Standard is slightly different from the others in that it is appropriate for the particular discipline. For example, the term, referral laboratories in paragraph 4.5 of ISO 15189 is used in a slightly different sense to the comparable clause in ISO/IEC 17025. Included in this section are consultants who may provide a second opinion. If the referral laboratory is an external laboratory, to which samples are submitted for a supplementary or confirmatory examination procedure and report, it is much the same as a contract laboratory in ISO/IEC 17025. There is an extra Annex in this Standard which covers the ethics applicable to laboratory medicine. [Pg.20]

A variety of online solid extraction devices and applications have been developed for bioanalysis. Many are easy to build in laboratories or commercially available. Unlike offline methods, minimal operator intervention is needed for daily sample analysis after online applications are set up, so the approach is both labor- and cost-effective. The technique can also minimize errors arising from manual operations, eliminate potential inconsistencies caused by different operators, and provide accessibility of LC/MS/MS applications to laboratories that have minimal analytical expertise. [Pg.280]

Students, workers, supervisors, managers, and administration should comply with the chemical safety management group/team. This is applicable to laboratories, university departments, factories, and industrial units where exposure to chemical substances is likely and precautions are necessary. People should be fully informed of the hazards involved and trained in appropriate safe working practices, globally harmonized system (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals, and first-aid measures. [Pg.191]

The methodologies of high-throughput peptide synthesis are overviewed and discussed. Particular focus is given to the techniques applicable to laboratories with a limited budget. Automated solutions for synthetic problems are also discussed. [Pg.167]

Although various procedures for recovering iridium appear in the literature, they are not generally applicable to laboratory residues. Those intended for ores assume the presence of other platinum metals and are therefore unnecessarily... [Pg.131]

Like the FDA, the EPA determined that the promulgation of GLP regulations would most effectively handle the problem of compliance with adequate control standards, and the agency published proposed health effects standards for testing under TSCA on May 9, 1979 (11). Proposed GLP regulations applicable to laboratory studies submitted to the EPA in compliance with FIFRA were published on April 18, 1980... [Pg.17]

A useful strategy for reaction initiation is the addition of an agent to both diy the reaction medium tind to activate the magnesium metal through interaction with the metal surlace. There are many methods of initiation of the Grignard retigent formation these have been summarizevi previously. 281 with emphasis on application to laboratory work. In this section the discussion focuses on the industrial application (vf several common initiators. [Pg.304]

Although many procedures for recovering platinum appear in the literature, they are not generally applicable to laboratory residues. Since those intended for ores assume the presence of other platinum metals, they are unnecessarily complicated. On the other hand, simpler methods involving only treatment with formaldehyde, formic acid, sodium dithionite, iron, magnesium, zinc, or other reducing agents reduce other inactive metals such as copper or silver. Furthermore, standard reduction methods are seldom directly applicable to the more stable platinum complexes. [Pg.232]

Characteristically, the more highly oxidized species prepared in this study were nearly amorphous to x-rays. They contained essentially no sodium. Although such material may be a little less stable than Bricker s (1) 8Mn02, its thermodynamic stability is assumed here to be the same as he determined. It will become evident later that, in general, this assumption produces a reasonable model applicable to laboratory systems. However, natural products may have a considerable range of stability and composition, and because they are generally impure and disordered, their thermodynamic properties can only be approximated. [Pg.47]

CFR 1910 Subpart Z Toxic and Hazardous Substances. These are standards for specific toxic and hazardous substances. Certain parts of these standards apply to laboratories and other parts do not. Most specific airborne standards for chemicals are applicable to laboratories, but other requirements do not apply. Two standards within Subpart Z are ... [Pg.61]

Wavemaker theories play several important roles in coastal and ocean engineering. The most important role is the application to laboratory wavemakers for both wavemaker designs and wave experiments. A second role for wavemaker theories is to compute a scalar radiated wave potential to compute the wave-induced loads on large solid bodies appl5dng potential wave theory. The displacements and rotations of a semi-immersed six degrees-of-freedom large Lagrangian solid body are related to the displacements and rotations of wavemakers. The boundary between a planar wavemaker and an ideal fluid requires special care because the fluid motion... [Pg.25]

Radiation-induced polymerizations of vinyl ether monomers must be regarded as special techniques and are not generally applicable to laboratory or commercial production of poly(vinyl ethers). [Pg.177]

As a systematic procedural approach, QA can be traced to the post-World War II years and to applications in the military and engineering. Many lessons learned in caring for Ebola patients are applicable to laboratories including requirements for proper personal protective equipment (PPE), established protocols to put on and take off PPE in hospitals, effective training in protocols, demonstrated competency in following protocols, and watching for fatigue, exhaustion and complacency. ... [Pg.471]

Included in Table 1 is the application to laboratory animal diets because it is relevant to the human food area in two respects. The wide use of the diets over more than 15 years, and many animal generations, establishes firstly the effectiveness of irradiation in the inactivation of micro-organisms, and secondly the absence of toxic effects due to the treatment of a complex diet of high nutritional value. Experience gained in this area is valuable background information in the examination of the general safety of irradiated human foods. [Pg.337]

The development of a robust and appropriate sampling design is fundamental to the success of any study involving the collection of field samples, and many of the aspects are also applicable to laboratory studies. The importance of careful sample collection and processing is imperative to underscore, as these are the first steps undertaken in studies based in aquatic ecosystems. Clearly any issues introduced during these early stages result in a wasted effort as data quality is compromised from the outset of the study. [Pg.125]
