Condensation of water molecules on the iimer surface is often a problem for packages containing high moisture commodities. In those situations, antifogging compounds can be coated on the surface of the material or incorporated in the material during manufacture. Glycerol, sorbitol stearate, fatly alcohols, and ethyloxylates of nor l-phenols are used as antifogging additives. 

David et al. [184] have shown that cool on-column injection and the use of deactivated thermally stable columns in CGC-FID and CGC-F1D-MS for quantitative determination of additives (antistatics, antifogging agents, UV and light stabilisers, antioxidants, etc.) in mixtures prevents thermal degradation of high-MW compounds. Perkins et al. [101] have reported development of an analysis method for 100 ppm polymer additives in a 500 p,L SEC fraction in DCM by means of at-column GC (total elution time 27 min repeatability 3-7 %). Requirements for the method were (i) on-line (ii) use of whole fraction (LVI) and (iii) determination of high-MW compounds (1200 Da) at low concentrations. Difficult matrix introduction (DMI) and selective extraction can be used for GC analysis of silicone oil contamination in paints and other complex analytical problems.

Compounders are always free to buy individual additives and combine them to their specific needs. In some cases, particularly when the additive is difficult to compound, it is best masterbatched by speciahsts and then sold to the processor who simply lets it down with natural. Many processors prefer not to become involved in the chemical details and buy combined masterbatches containing several additives aU together in the same masterbatch. This is particularly common in stabfiizer packages, surface-treated fillers and fibers, lubricant packages, colorants + odorants, polyblends, and antifog/antistat/lubricant additives. While this saves the processor a lot of detail formnlatmg effort, it makes it mnch more difficult for him to identify and solve problems when the componnd does not perform properly.

Flexible PVC compounds-95% monoester content provides better compatibility between the hydrophilic component of an antifog formulation and the PVC film or sheet, while wash-off resistance is maintained. PVC Compound thermal stability is enhanced and color development is minimized. 

Rotational plastisol and powder molding now compete in production of automotive interior surface layers for PUR foam structures (e.g., instrument panels, crash pads, and arm and head rests). Tooling and compound costs generally favor the use of plastisols, increased antifogging requirements the use of powders. Powder technology also opens this area to polymers other than PVC future developments should be of interest. 

Uses Coemulsilier, lubricant, softener, emollient for mold releases and spin finishes for n. fibers rust preventive in compounded oils lubricant, antisteL antifog for PVC film processing...
