Dietary measures are initiated first—unless the patient has evident coronary or peripheral vascular disease—and may obviate the need for drugs. Patients with familial hypercholesterolemia or familial combined hyperlipidemia always require drug therapy. Cholesterol and saturated and trans-fats are the principal factors that increase LDL, whereas total fat, alcohol, and excess calories increase triglycerides. 

The design is very efficient due to finer droplet size and the fact that all the air passes through the hottest water, but the efficiency can be impaired by process contaminants such as fats, alcohols, sugars, phosphates, fibrous materials, and tars. 

Auxiliary agents, such as ethoxylated fatly alcohols, alkylphenols, and fatty amines, can improve level dyeing. 

As indicated, a variety of aldehydes have been demonstrated in oxidized fats. Alcohols have also been identified, but the presence of ketones is not as certain. Keeney (1962) has listed the aldehydes that may be formed from breakdown of hydroperoxides of oxidized oleic, linoleic, Iinolenic, and arachidonic acids (Table 2-23). The aldehydes are powerful flavor compounds and have very low flavor thresholds for example, 2,4-decadie-nal has a flavor threshold of less than one part per billion. The presence of a double bond in an aldehyde generally lowers the flavor threshold considerably. The aldehydes can be further oxidized to carboxylic acids or other tertiary oxidation products. 

Another explanation that has been advanced by Azad et al. (1975) implies that when stirring the mixture, the mixed micelles collide with droplets of Z, with the result that fatly alcohol is transferred to the droplets. During this process, a transient high concentration of fatly alcohol in the outer layer of the droplets of Z, may cause a spontaneous emulsification of parts of the droplet. It is well known that spontaneous emulsification may be obtained with 20-30% fatty alcohol fSchulman et al 1940).
