In addition, several other organs, like the heart, ovaty, amnion, chorion, decidua, testis, epididymis and prostate, have been reported to synthesize OT, suggesting a paracrine role for this hormone in these tissues. Ectopic AVP production by lung cancer cells or other neoplasms has been described in humans, leading to the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. 

OTRs are mainly expressed in myoepithelial cells of the galactiferus channels and the myometrium. The OTRs in vascular endothelial cells, renal epithelial cells (macula densa, proximal tubule) and cardiomyocytes induce the production of NO (vasodilation), natriuresis and release of ANP, respectively. The endometrium, ovary, amnion, testis, epididymis, prostate and thymus also express the OTR supporting a paracrine role of this peptide. Osteoblasts, osteoclasts, pancreatic islets cells, adipocytes, and several types of cancer cells also express OTRs. More over, expression of the OTR...

The uterine environments of MZ twins will be more or less similar depending on whether there are two amnions and two chorions, two amnions and a shared chorion, or a shared amnion and chorion. 

Obstetric infections include infections which occur during pregnancy, delivery and in the postpartum period, and which affect the uterus or its content. Clinical entities are amnionitis, and post partum or post-caesarean endometritis and infected abortion. Symptoms are lower abdominal pain, fever and eventually foetid amniotic fluid or lochia. 

Obstetric infections can be treated with penicillin-beta-lactamase inhibitors such as amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, with extended spectrum penicillins (with or without beta-lacamase inhibitors if justified by local resistance surveillance data), with a first or second generation cephalosporin combined with metronidazole. In severe cases of streptococcal infection high doses of penicillin in combination with clindamycin is the treatment of choice. In amnionitis, maternal morbidity resolves with delivery. Amnionic surfactants used in shampoos, cosmetics, toothpaste, and laundry products include linear alkylbenzenesulfonates (LAS), alcohol sulfates (AS), alcohol ethoxysulfates (AES), alcohol glycerol ether sulfonates, and alpha-olefin sulfates.
