American Chemical Society safety publications

Journal of Chemical Health Safety. Official publication of the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Health and Safety. Published by Elsevier B.V., Amsterdam. 

This experiment, if properly executed, follows the guidelines found in an American Chemical Society publication (Safety in Academic Chemistry Laboratories) which state that fume hoods, eyewash stations, and safety showers should be tested regularly for proper operation and that students should know how to operate these devices. It also serves to help bring safety issues to the forefront in the students study of chemistry.

The American Society of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a technical society devoted to chemical engineering and associated technologies and issues. Many chemical engineers work in the chemical process industry. In 1985, AIChE established the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). It was an industry response to the Bhopal, India, disaster (Case 24-1). It has become the center of expertise for process safety. It publishes many publications on process safety, and conducts conferences and training to advance process safety practices. 

He has received numerous safety awards and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He was a member of the Fire Protection Working Group of the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA). He is the author of many technical papers and professional articles in various international fire safety publications. He has also written several other books which include. Application of HAZOP and What-lf Safety Reviews to the Petroleum, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Editions), Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities, Encyclopedia of Fire Protection (1st and 2nd Editions) and Loss Prevention, and Safety Control Terms and Definitions. 

William R. Rhyne received a B.S. in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee and M.S. and D.Sc. degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia. Dr. Rhyne is currently an independent consultant and earlier cofounded H R Technical Associates, Inc., where he remains a member of the board of directors. He has extensive experience in risk and safety analyses associated with nuclear and chemical processes and with the transport of hazardous nuclear materials and chemicals. From 1984 to 1987, he was the project manager and principal investigator for a probabilistic accident analysis of transporting obsolete chemical munitions. Dr. Rhyne has authored or coauthored numerous publications and reports in nuclear and chemical safety and risk analysis areas and is author of the book Hazardous Materials Transportation Risk Analysis Quantitative Approaches for Truck and Train.
