Aluminum gaskets

After a settling time of one minute in the cold well, puncture the aluminum gasket in the cap of the test cylinder with a sharp object such as a pencil or large wire. Three minutes after the aluminum gasket is punctured, remove the test cylinder from the cold well and measure the volume of fuel whichflowed through the capillary orifice separating the top and bottom sections of the test cylinder. [Pg.192]

The catalyst, in the form of a thin (100y) wafer held by the aluminum gasket sealing the reactor, was placed perpendicular to the IR beam. The reactants flowed along both sides of the catalyst wafer. The wafers were prepared by pressing approximately 30 mg of the prereduced catalyst powder at a pressure of about 7,000 psi. The wafers, approximately 2.5 cm dia., were reduced again in the reactor for 12 hours at 200 C. [Pg.348]

While with-in the mobile x-ray system, the waste in the sampler, is contained within a replaceable (and disposable) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sleeve with a wall thickness of approximately 0.2-inches and a sealed bottom. It was anticipated that the PVC tube or sleeve would, with use, become highly contaminated with waste residues which drip of fall-off the sampler. The sleeve is coated with a conductive coating to prevent static electricity buildup . There are no sources of ignition in this sealed spare. The sampler (and waste) is coupling which includes a positive pressure gasket. This barrier is further isolated by a second barrier consisting of an epoxy coated aluminum sleeve also sealed-off from the main x-ray cabinet and PVC sleeve. There are also no potential sources of ignition in this isolated secondary space as well. [Pg.611]

Commercial-grade nitroparaftins are shipped and stored ia ordinary carbon steel. However, wet nitroparaftins containing more than 0.1—0.2% water may become discolored when stored ia steel for long periods, even though corrosion is not excessive. Aluminum and stainless steel are completely resistant to corrosion by wet nitroparaftins. Storage ia contact with lead (qv), copper, or alloys containing these metals should be avoided. Polymeric materials for gaskets, hoses, and connections should be tested for thek suitabiHty before exposure to nitroparaftins. [Pg.102]

Demountable joints are commercially available in great variety in stainless steel, but less so in aluminum alloy or related materials. Experimental joints have been made in which aluminum flanges employ aluminum foil as gasket material. [Pg.376]

SmaH quantities of carbon tetrachloride can be shipped in 1, 5, and 55 gaHon (208 L) metal containers. Larger quantities are shipped by tank tmck, tank car, barge, and ship. Seamless stainless steel. Teflon, or seamless bronze hose is recommended with asbestos. Teflon, Viton, or neoprene gaskets. Special precautions should be taken to prevent contact with aluminum, magnesium metal, and their aHoys (48). [Pg.532]

Two types of localized corrosion are pitting and crevice corrosion. Pitting corrosion occurs on exposed metal surfaces, whereas crevice corrosion occurs within occluded areas on the surfaces of metals such as the areas under rivets or gaskets, or beneath silt or dirt deposits. Crevice corrosion is usually associated with stagnant conditions within the crevices. A common example of pitting corrosion is evident on household storm window frames made from aluminum alloys. [Pg.274]

Physicochemical Properties of Biodiesel. - The redox characteristics of biodiesel make it a reducing agent for materials, such as brass, bronze, cooper, lead, tin and zinc. For this reason, contact of biodiesel with these materials must be avoided.Materials such as aluminum, steel, fluorinated polymers and Teflon do not react with biodiesel and can be used to handle it. In addition, biodiesel shows mild solvent properties hence, biodiesel contact with painted or varnished surfaces as well as rubber devices, such as hoses, seals and gaskets, may cause problems. [Pg.56]

The materials used in propane dispensers include steel, wrought iron, brass, and aluminum. Dispensing nozzles are made from aluminum, brass, and steel. Few elastomer gaskets are used in propane systems—most are aluminum or steel. Propane dispensing systems should incorporate filters to prevent debris and heavy oils from being pumped into the vehicle fuel tank. [Pg.125]

The analyzer in Fig. 10 was the first micro-fabricated DMS analyzer and is shown independent of the housing, ion source, flow and power utilities, and data system. The plates of the units built at NMSU are held between two aluminum (Al) supports with Teflon cushions and insulators between the Al housing and the DMS plates and a 0.5-mm-thick gasket to separate plates and direct gas flow and ion through the analyzer. [Pg.75]

Weigh accurately about 200 mg of a dned, extracted wood meal (40-60 mesh) with known moisture and extractives contents or 50 mg of a dned, purified lignin preparation The specimen, 7ml of 2M NaOH, and 0 4ml of freshly distilled nitrobenzene are placed m a 10-ml stainless steel bomb (Note 1) The bomb is sealed tightly with a screw cap fitted with a Teflon gasket and heated at 170°C for 2 5h m an electrically preheated (170°C), thermostated aluminum block with six holes to accommodate the cylindrically shaped bombs or in a thermostated oil bath The bomb is shaken occasionally and, after the heating period, is removed from the heater and cooled with ice water The oxidation mixture is transferred to a liquid-liquid extractor, and extracted continuously with CHCI, for 4h to remove nitrobenzene reduction products and any excess nitrobenzene The oxidation mixture is acidified to pH 3-4 with cone HC1, and further extracted continuously with CHCI, for 48 h The solvent from the second CHCI, solution is removed at 40°C under reduced pressure to obtain the nitrobenzene oxidation mixture The mixture is then dissolved m 5 ml of CH2C12 and transferred to a 10-ml volumetric flask The solution is made up to 10 ml... [Pg.306]
