Tin foil (packaging) A term often used for aluminum foil. Aluminum foil supplanted tin foil for packaging in about 1910. See also Aluminum foil, clean. [Pg.715]

Normal laboratory glassware must first be washed and cleaned. It has to be rinsed with deionised water. The clean glassware is sterilised in an oven set at 200 °C for 1 1 hours. It is suitable to cover glassware with aluminum foil to maintain aseptic conditions after removing the glassware from the oven. If aluminum foil is not available, special heat-resistant wrap paper can be used. The sterile glassware must be protected from the air, which has micro-flora, or any contaminants. Avoid the use of any plastic caps and papers. Detach any labelling tape or other flammable materials, as they are fire hazards. [Pg.348]

Whole-body dosimeters are processed post-exposure as follows. The whole-body dosimeter is laid on a table covered with fresh aluminum foil and is sectioned into various pieces using a solvent-cleaned pair of scissors. Low and coworkers (.28, 29, 30) have pioneered the application of FT spectrometers to the observation of emission spectra from solid surfaces. An example taken from a study by Low and Coleman (29) is illustrated in Figure 13. Spectrum A shows the emission of a clean aluminum foil at 33°C. Spectrum B is of the same surface after it had been wiped with an oleic acid-coated paper and then wiped dry. Spectrum C is the same as B, but taken with twice the number of scans and twice the gain. For ternary system measurements, the two solids to be studied are first mixed to provide intimate contact. The minimum melting point for the solid-solid binary at atmospheric conditions occurs at the eutectic composition. A solid mixture of this composition is prepared in the expectation that a similar ratio of the components will be present in the liquid phase at the first melting point in the ternary mixture.
