Aluminum anodizing hot seal tank - 891 Aluminum borate - 611 Aluminum brazing flux - 670 Aluminum bright dip - 891 Aluminum bromide - 355, 393, 399, 406, 810,822, 856... [Pg.902]

In the anodizing stage electrolytic reactions produce a uniform aluminum oxide layer across the aluminum surface. This anodic film is transparent and porous. The underlying matte or bright surface can be seen. After anodizing, the aluminum part can be colored or sealed. [Pg.224]

Dichromates and chromic acid are used as sealers or after-dips to improve the corrosion resistance of various coatings on metals. Eor example, phosphate coatings on galvani2ed iron or steel as well as sulfuric acid anodic coatings on aluminum can be sealed by hexavalent chromium baths. [Pg.143]

In-service issues. As mentioned previously, many early service failures of bonded structure were due to adherend surface treatments that were unstable in long-term exposure to water. A majority of these problems were resolved by the adoption of surface treatments such as chromic and phosphoric acid anodize for aluminum details. The remaining few were alleviated by the adoption of phosphoric acid anodized honeycomb core and foaming adhesives resistant to water passage. Other service durability issues such as the cracking of brittle potting compound used to seal honeycomb sandwich assemblies, and subsequent delamination, have been minor in scope. [Pg.1170]

Fignre 27.3 shows a typical spectroelectrochemical cell for in sitn XRD on battery electrode materials. The interior of the cell has a construction similar to a coin cell. It consists of a thin Al203-coated LiCo02 cathode on an aluminum foil current collector, a lithium foil anode, a microporous polypropylene separator, and a nonaqueous electrolyte (IMLiPFg in a 1 1 ethylene carbonate/dimethylcarbonate solvent). The cell had Mylar windows, an aluminum housing, and was hermetically sealed in a glove box. [Pg.472]

Hot water seal is a heated water bath (heated to approximately 180°F) used to seal the surface coating on formed aluminum that has been anodized and coated. In establishing an effluent allowance for this operation, the hot water seal shall be classified as a cleaning or etching rinse. [Pg.223]

Nickel compounds are of great importance industrially and a review is available on the use of nickel in heterogeneous catalysis, electroplating, batteries, pigments, ceramics and hydrogen storage.76 This concerns simple aqua complexes of nickel(II) with anions such as carbonate, halide, hydroxide, nitrate and sulfate. Nickel acetate and formate find similar use, and the acetate is employed in the sealing of anodized aluminum.77 [Ni(NH3)6]Cl2 has been shown to be potentially applicable in heat pumps.78... [Pg.1020]

When the lead plate is the anode, current flows from the lead plate, through the electrolyte and through the pin-holes in the film, to the aluminum plate. When the current flows in this direction, instead of sealing... [Pg.1]

Anodizing is an electrolytic method involving aluminum alloy as the anode, which is converted to an aluminum oxide layer of 5-30 pm thickness. Anodic coatings obtained in sulfuric acid, when properly sealed, are particularly effective against discoloration. Anodic coatings are used in the case of alloys used in architecture and as well as paint bases. [Pg.236]

A patented process has been developed for the production of electrode binder pitch from petroleum-based materials. Carbon anodes produced from the petroleum-based pitch and coke have been used successfully on a commercial scale by the aluminum industry. One stage of the process involves the pyrolysis of a highly aromatic petroleum feedstock. To study the pyrolysis stage of the process a small, sealed tube reactor was used to pyrolyze samples of feedstock. The progress of the reaction is discussed in terms of the formation of condensed aromatic structures, defined by selective solvent extraction of the reaction product. The pyrolysis of the feedstock exhibits a temperature-dependent induction period followed by reaction sequences that can be described by first-order kinetics. Rate constants and activation energies are derived for the formation of condensed aromatic structures and coke. [Pg.275]

The metering valve in an MDI is the critical component in the design of an effective delivery system. The main function of the metering valve is to reproducibly deliver a portion of the liquid phase of the formulation in which the medication is either dissolved or dispersed. The valve also forms the seal atop the canister to prevent loss of the pressurized contents. The valves generally comprise at least seven components that are constructed from a variety of inert materials. Typical materials of construction are acetal or polyester for the valve body, stainless steel or acetal for the valve stem, generally anodized aluminum for the ferrule, and butyl, nitrile, or neoprene for the elastomers used in the seals and gaskets [43],... [Pg.314]

The anodizing process consists of 1) trim forming, 2) cleaning, 3) anodic electrolysis usually in sulfuric acid and, 4) sealing in an aqueous bath. Each of these steps are important, for example, the anodized oxide layer must be controlled to provide an optimum thickness. Sealing the anodized layer is also very important and must be complete. Corrosion problems associated with anodized aluminum trim include etching of the oxide film (known as "blush and bloom ) and pitting of the aluminum. [Pg.213]
