Aluminized poly

Llumar, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (ICI, Melinex 0 that is aluminized and sold by Martin Processing Inc., PET /Al, 3 mil) and FEK-244, aluminized poly(methyl methacrylate) with adhesive backing, PMMA (3M)/Al/adhesive (3M 4 mil polymer). Some of the bulk polymers were compounded with 3 wt% carbon black (Cabot s Vulcan 3), designated with a subscript c, to reduce ultraviolet absorption. [Pg.126]

The structure of polynorbornadiene [poly(3,5-tricyclo(2.2.1.02 6]heptylene] (5) [28] and the high level of incorporation suggest that the three-membered rings in the polymer behave like double bonds and have been aluminated. [Pg.318]

Focusing collectors are usually cast acrylic Fresnel lenses, or mirrors of aluminized polyester film in frames of aluminum. These reflectors are either enclosed in a bubble of poly(vinyl fluoride) film, or under polycarbonate glazing, which may be covered with a fluorocarbon film to reduce the reflectivity. The absorbers for active systems are copper or aluminum since the temperatures are too high (325—370°C) for plastics. The frames, however, can be molded ABS, high density polyethylene or polyurethane, either solid or structural foam. Polybutylene or chlorinated PVC can be used for piping hot water, and tanks can be made of either reinforced polyester or blow- or rotational-molded, high density polyethylene (12—15). [Pg.331]

Knowledge of the aluminium species present under alkaline conditions is of critical importance to industrial chemical operations such as the Bayer process in which the aluminium present in bauxite ores is dissolved in concentrated sodium hydroxide solution. Al NMR has been used to investigate the A1 coordination states in the resulting sodium aluminates after freeze drying (Bradley and Hanna 1994). At an OH Al ratio > 4.4, the predominant species is Na[Al(OH)4] (Q ) with a Al resonance at 86.6 ppm. A broader resonance at 71.3 ppm is probably composed of a variety of other poly-oxoanionic species such as [Al(OH2)(OAl)2] (Q ), [Al20(0H)6] (Q ) and... [Pg.299]

All the studies on these polymers have involved some aspect of laser ablation. The minimum fluence for a 248 nm laser pulse to etch the surface of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (polyester) film has been determined while in other work on aluminized polyester this has been found to be dependent upon the film thickness . Fresnel patterns were obtained in biaxially stretched polyester films on laser ablation while other workers have found that the shock velocities approach the blast wave theory at fluences >1 J/cro 385 ipjjg surface properties of carbon fibre filled polyester has been studied following ablation by scanning electron... [Pg.445]

The poly-aluminates (formula nAl203-mR20 with R = Na, K, Li or Ag) are called p-alumina. At high temperature (>1,000°C), these compounds crystalhze into two forms p-alumina and P"-alumina whose formulas are IIAI2O3-R2O and 5AI2O3-R2O respectively. Their crystalhne stracture is constituted of spinel blocks containing aluminum ions and oxide ions separated by syrmnetric plans composed of oxide ions and R ions, p-alumina contains two spinel blocks and a symmetric plan, and P"-alumina contains three spinel blocks and two syrmnetric plans. Figures 7.34a and 7.34b show the stracture of p-alumina mesh and P"-alumina mesh respectively. [Pg.255]

Dacron fiber is used to make fabric and tire cord, and Mylar film is used to make magnetic recording tape. Mylar film is strong, flexible, and resistant to ultraviolet degradation. Aluminized Mylar was used to make the Echo satellites, huge balloons that were put into orbit around the Earth as giant reflectors in the early 1960s. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) is also blow-molded to make plastic soft-drink bottles that are sold by the billions each year. [Pg.1234]

Sodium silicate (water glass) or sodium stabilized silica sol as a silica source, sodium aluminate as a Al-source, NaOH as the alkali source and poly-(dimethyl-diallyl ammonium chloride) (PDDA-Cl) were obtained from Chemie AG Wolfen-Bitterfeld. Table 11-1 gives the characterization of the PDDA-Cl charges used. [Pg.230]

Like almost all paints and lacquers, water-based dispersions also contain other components besides binder, pigment, and solvent. For example, the latex structure is favorably influenced by addition of poly(acrylamide). Added silicones reduce foaming. The flow properties are improved by hydroxyethyl cellulose or vegetable gums. The desired thixotropic poperties are produced by addition of bentonite, zirconium carbonate, or triethanolamine aluminate, etc. [Pg.787]

A variety of aluminate spinels MAI2O4 (M = Co, Ni, Cu) have been synthesized by Meyer etal. [319] via microemulsions. Non-ionic, nonylphenol-poly[(n)glycol ether] type surfactants (n = 7, 10, 15), i.e. the Tergitol series TNP-7, TNP-10 and TNP-35 were used with octan-l-ol as a co-surfactant. The oil phase was cyclohexane or n-heptane, while the aqueous phase was pure water. The individual microemulsions produced out of the above constituents were added dropwise under dry nitrogen atmosphere to isopropyl or tert-butyl alcohol solutions of the relevant heterobimetallic alkoxides to effect precipitation through hydrolysis. [Pg.127]

The intercalation of poly(acrylamide)-montmoriUonite superabsorbing polymer composites (SAPCs) into an aluminate cement matrix leads to a noticeable improvement in the mechanical properties of the hardened cement paste. The addition of as little as 0.6% SAPCs increases the compressive strength from 36.1 to 44.4MPa, the modulus of elashcity from 7.8 to 11.1 GPa, and the split tensile strength from 3.3 to 7.0MPa, for a W/C ratio of 0.4 (Gao et al, 1997). [Pg.144]

Poly(ethylene terephthlate) can also be processed to form a film known as Mylar. Mylar is tear resistant and, when processed, has a tensile strength nearly as great as that of steel. It is used in the manufacture of magnetic recording tape and sails. Aluminized Mylar was used to make the Echo satellite that was put into orbit around Earth as a giant reflector of microwave signals. [Pg.1256]

Initiation was shown to proceed mainly by attack of the alkoxide moieties of the aluminate complex, thus yielding poly-(POx) with an alkoxide head group and, after hydrolysis, a hydroxy chain end. The presence of small fractions of poly-(POx) with hydrogen or alkyl head groups indicates the minor contribution of other initiation mechanisms involving ligand reorganization in the initial complex (see Scheme 41), as well as some, but limited, chain transfer to monomer. [Pg.135]
