Glycerol alkyl ethers

The effects of the addition of sugars, long-tailed n-alkyl pyranosides, n-alkyl glycerol ethers and n-alcohols on the properties of di-n-hexadccyldi methyl ammonium bromide (DHAB) vesicles have been studied.54 Upon addition of most additives, an inhibiting effect on the decarboxylation reaction of 6-nitrobenzisoxazole-3-carboxylate anion has been observed relative to the reaction in vesicles without any additive. The largest inhibition was observed in the case of cholesterol. [Pg.315]

Tetrahydrobiopterin is not a vitamin, because it can be synthesized from GTP, as shown in Figure 10.2 (Thony et al., 2000). It is the coenzyme for mixed-function oxidases phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan hydroxylases alkyl glycerol monoxygenase, which catalyzes the cleavage of alkyl glycerol ethers and nitric oxide synthase in the formation of nitric oxide. In addition to its coenzyme role, tetrahydrobiopterin has a direct effect on neurons, acting to stimulate dopamine release via a cAMP-dependent protein kinase and a calcium channel (Koshimura et al., 2000). [Pg.294]

There is plenty of information available in literature on liquid crystalline and isotropic phases of different surfactants, but the study of the solid phases is limited to only soaps [12-19]. The basic reason for the lack of solid phase studies of synthetic surfactants is their limited use in solid form. The low KP of these surfactants limits their use to liquid products. Owing to a relatively high KP, sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI), alkyl glycerol ether sulfonate (AGES), and sodium cocoyl monoglyceride sulfate (CMOS) form solid phases at room temperature, but there is hardly any information available on these solid phases. [Pg.137]

The alkyl glycerol ethers, alkenyl glycerol ethers and monoglycerides can occur as a- and j8-isomers diglycerides may be symmetrical (a,a -) or asymmetrical (a,jS-). [Pg.363]

Stream from the retinoic acid effect. However, structural specificity of the sialyl compounds on granulocytic differentiation of HL-60 cells was rather broad, in comparison to GM3(NeuAc) on monocytic differentiation, because several synthetic sialyl compounds, such as sialyl cholesterol and sialyl alkyl glycerol ether, showed the same bioactivity (Saito et aL, 1990). [Pg.227]

Alkyl ethers and alk-l-enyl ethers (or plasmalogens) are two general types of glycerol ethers. Mono- and dialkyl ethers have been reported to occur naturally. Examples include batyl alcohol (CT-l-O-octadecylglycerol) and chimyl alcohol (CT-l-O-hexa-... [Pg.933]

Archaebacteria have unique membrane lipids, with long-chain alkyl groups ether-linked to glycerol at both ends and with sugar residues and/or phosphate joined to the glycerol to provide a polar or charged head group. These Lipids are stable under the harsh conditions in which archaebacteria live. [Pg.357]

Glycerol ethers can be divided into two general types alkyl ethers and alk-l-enyl ethers (or plasmalogens). [Pg.27]
