Alcohol ethanol

Drugs that can increase the serum levels/effects of alcohol [Pg.200]

Drugs whose therapeutic effects were shown to be opposed by alcohol [Pg.200]

Drugs whose serum levels/effects can be decreased by alcohol [Pg.200]

In a conventional gasoline containing hydrocarbons or even ethers, the presence of water is not a problem in fact, water is totally soluble up to about 50 ppm at ambient temperature. Beyond this value water separates without affecting the hydrocarbon phase and the water leg can be withdrawn if necessary. On the other hand, in the presence of alcohols (ethanol and especially methanol), trace amounts of water can cause a separation of two phases one is a mixture of water and alcohol, the other of hydrocarbons (Cox, 1979). [Pg.243]

Consider three compounds similar m size and shape the alkane propane the alkyl halide fluoroethane and the alcohol ethanol... [Pg.148]

In a widely used industnal process the mixture of ethylene and propene that is obtained by dehydrogenation of natural gas is passed into concentrated sulfunc acid Water is added and the solution IS heated to hydrolyze the alkyl hydrogen sulfate The product is almost exclusively a sin gle alcohol Is this alcohol ethanol 1 propanol or 2 propanoH Why is this particular one formed almost exclusively" ... [Pg.277]

Many biological processes involve oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds or the reverse process reduction of carbonyl compounds to alcohols Ethanol for example is metabolized m the liver to acetaldehyde Such processes are catalyzed by enzymes the enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of ethanol is called alcohol dehydrogenase... [Pg.645]

To understand the greater acidity of carboxylic acids compared with water and alcohols compare the structural changes that accompany the ionization of a representa tive alcohol (ethanol) and a representative carboxylic acid (acetic acid)... [Pg.795]

Aqueous solutions can be stabilized against viscosity loss by addition of 5—10 wt % anhydrous isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, or propylene glycol. The manganous ion (Mn " ) also is an effective stabilizer at concentrations of 10 -10 wt% of the solution. [Pg.342]

Membranes becoming more widely available for aqueous—organic separations some successful industrial appHcations reported for dehydrations and removal of alcohols (ethanol and above) from water. [Pg.453]

Alcoholic (ethanolic) fermentation A fermentation in which the major products are carbon dioxide and ethanol (alcohol). [Pg.899]

Benzol and other alcohol-hased additives improved octane number, up to a point. Experiments using alcohol (ethanol, methanol) as a replacement for gasoline began as early as 1906. In 1915, Hetu-y Ford announced a plan to extract alcohol from grain to power his new Fordson tractor, an idea that never achieved commercial success. [Pg.551]

Because ethyl bromide, ethyl alcohol (ethanol), etc., can be thought of as being derived from ethane by the substitution of one of its hydrogens by —Br, —OH, etc., we speak of these as derivatives of ethane, and we say that ethane is the parent hydrocarbon for a series of related compounds. [Pg.330]

Acetone, THF, methanol, ethyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, n-propyl alcohol, toluene, and 2-methoxyethanol... [Pg.307]

Benzocaine is an ester, a compound made from the organic acid PABA (para-amino benzoic acid) and the alcohol ethanol. [Pg.172]

Hydroxyl Alcohol Ethanol Acids, amines, aldehydes, alcohols... [Pg.890]

Alcohols Ethanol Slight Avoid broken skin, eyes OES IOOOppm/1900 mgrrr, 8h only Poor penetration, good cleansing properties... [Pg.209]

With the complex where L = pyridine an optical nanosensor was developed [135-137], the method used to fix the vapochromic material to the optical fiber was the electrostatic self assembling method (ESA) and the light source used was an 850 nm LED. The sensor was tested for two different alcohols (ethanol and methanol) and it was possible to distinguish between different concentrations. It was also possible to discriminate between the two different alcohols. [Pg.122]
