Analytical chemistry having an interdisciplinary character cannot set aside the attractive power and advances of supramolecular chemistry - the chemistry beyond the molecule or the chemistry of molecular assemblies and of intermolecular bonds as defined by Jean-Marie Lehn, who won the Nobel Prize in 1987. Recognition, reactivity, and transport, as well as self-assembly, self-organization and self-replication are the basic functional features of supramolecular species and chemistry. 

The refinement of other analytical methods, such as electrophoresis [34,36], the various techniques of optical spectroscopy [103-105], and nuclear magnetic resonance [201], is supplemented by the recent advances in real-time affinity measurements [152,202], contributing to the understanding of biomolecular reactivity. Taken together, the improvement of analytical methods will eventually allow a comprehensive characterization of the structure, topology, and properties of the nucleic acid-based supramolecular components under consideration for distinctive applications in nanobiotechnology. 

As a consequence one might expect that the future needs to rely on hybrid elements which arise from advanced UV-and electron-beam lithography, from imprint techniques or automated and parallelized nanomanipulation techniques, like dip-pen lithography or focused ion-beam techniques in combination with supramolecular approaches for the assembly of molecular inorganic/organic hybrid system. All these advances have helped illuminate, inspire, and develop the world of single-molecule electronic behavior, and its extension into supramolecular assemblies. 

Controlling the size, shape and ordering of synthetic organic materials at the macromolecular and supramolecular levels is an important objective in chemistry. Such control may be used to improve specific advanced material properties. Initial efforts to control dendrimer shapes involved the use of appropriately shaped core templates upon which to amplify dendritic shells to produce either dendrimer spheroids or cylinders (rods). The first examples of covalent dendrimer rods were reported by Tomalia et al. [43] and Schluter et al.
