Constructional polymers

Molecular Constructions, Polymers and Nanoparticles, Springer SerFluoresc (2010) 9 3-40, DOI 10.1007/978-3-642-04701-5 l, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010... [Pg.3]

Mixed valence aggregation, on the other hand, has never been observed — in low temperature matrices under conditions where dimeric aggregates do exist. Apparently, some minimum number of TTF molecules (greater than 2) appropriately oriented with respect to each other, are required for the stabilization of the mixed valence state. Both a crystalline matrix or a suitably constructed polymer could and seemingly does provide this environment. [Pg.441]

Portland cement Major three-dimensional inorganic construction polymer containing calcium silicates, lime, and alumina. [Pg.423]

The driving force in polymer synthesis is the search for new polymers with improved properties to replace other materials of construction. Polymers are lightweight and can be processed easily and economically into a wide range of shapes and forms. The major synthetic efforts at present are aimed at polymers with high temperature, liquid crystal, conducting, and nonlinear optical properties [Maier et al., 2001 Sillion, 1999]. There is an interrelationship between these efforts as will become apparent. [Pg.144]

In this review the different synthetic strategies for constructing polymer-peptide hybrids will be discussed, as well as some of the characteristic features of the materials. The complexity of the hybrid structures prepared will increase as this review progresses, starting with the controlled polymerization of peptide-containing monomers and later covering the creation of block copolymer structures via a protein engineering approach. [Pg.21]

Taking advantage of the fact that carbon fibers can be etched down to a size of approximately 100 nm by passing the fiber through a flame, Strein and Ewing (40) constructed polymer coated submicrometer disk electrodes from flame-etched carbon fibers. Electrodes with an apparent diameter as small as 124 nm were obtained. The flame-etched fibers had a very rough aspect (4). [Pg.93]

PA with a notched-bar impact strength of less than 7 N/ mm and an impact strength of less than 35 mJ/mm is not suitable for use as a constructional polymer, etc. [30p]. For this sec the Tables 11.1-11.3. [Pg.513]

Precisely constructed polymers, by G. Natta, Scientific American, Aug. 1961. This article gives a description of the possible ordered forms of vinyl and allied polymers. [Pg.115]

In the second approach, the new constructed polymer joint is assumed of lower strength than bonded materials (Fig. 7), to assure lack of damage appearance in joined structural elements. Flexibility of polymer introduces higher deformability and thus increases amount of energy needed for destructing of the joint, which is a sum of structure and polymer deformation energy. [Pg.230]

As gradient textile technologies already demonstrate, fibers should only be incorporated where they are useful in carrying loads. In less stressed parts of a construction, polymer foam will be used for spacing out fibers. With the braid-pultrusion technique, this principle can be applied very easily into the structure. [Pg.301]
