To calculate the total hours worked by all employees, include the hours worked by salaried, hourly, part-time and seasonal workers, as well as hours worked by other workers supervised (e.g., workers supplied by a temporary help service). Do not include vacation, sick leave, holidays, or any other non-work time even if employees were paid for it. If the establishment keeps records of only the hours paid or if the employer has employees who are not paid by the hour, the hours that the employees actually worked must be estimated.

The primary intent of supervised field experience is for employees to be observed by the experienced person during the course of their workday to ensure that they are working safely. One of the most serious stressors to personnel working in many chemical processes is the perception of danger by the workers arising from ineffective control and supervision of these systems. The keyworker role is considered very important with all clients of the services. In normal circumstances such decisions are not over-ridden in duty worker contacts, and clients are made aware of this. Because the system is adhered to consistently there are relatively few attempts to problematically exploit it, and in general this approach is well accepted.
