Windscreen

Environmental Requirements Vlost large modern transfer stations are enclosed and are constructed of materials that can be maintained and cleaned easily. For direct-discharge transfer stations with open loading areas, special attention must be giv en to the problem of blowing papers. Windscreens or other barriers are commonly used. Regardless of type, the station should be designed and constructed so that all accessible areas where rubbish or paper can accumulate are eliminated. [Pg.2240]

Perspex, lucite. Transparent sheet and mouldings. Aircraft windows, laminated windscreens. [Pg.222]

Laminated safety glass has now become standard for automobile windscreens and is used for aircraft glazing. [Pg.394]

The methacrylic polymer remains a useful glazing material. In aircraft applications it is used extensively on aircraft which fly at speeds less than Mach 1.0. They form the familar bubble body of many helicopters. On land, acrylic sheet is useful for coach roof lights, motor cycle windscreens and in do-it yourself cabins for tractors and earth-moving equipment. Injection mouldings are frequently used for plaques on the centre of steering wheels and on some fascia panelling. [Pg.412]

One of the most important properties of commercial glasses is their great resistance to corrosion any chemical laboratory apparatus, any window or windscreen provides an excellent illustration. Windows remain virtually unchanged for centuries, resisting the influences of atmosphere and radiation. A vast range of products may be safely stored in glass for decades at ordinary temperatures, and the fact that gleiss can be used with alkaline, neutral and acid environments allows the same equipment to be used for a variety of processes. [Pg.869]

The application of sulfosuccinates in the field of household products is limited. But when extremely-good wetting properties are desired the short C-chain dialkyl sulfosuccinates are used. Examples are special glass cleansers (beer glass cleaner, spectacle glass cleaner, windscreen cleaner), floor cleaner, and wallpaper stripper. The amount added to the formula is between 0.5% and 2.5%, although for wallpaper stripper up to 20% is used. A typical formulation for a glass cleaner is ... [Pg.530]

Alkyne migration at [MoFeNi(/4 3-// -PhC2C02Pr )(CO)f,(i) -C5H5)2 has been examined " a formal rotation of the alkyne relative to the metal triangle proceeding by a modified windscreen wiper mechanism was proposed (Fig. 73). [Pg.121]

The most common plasticisers for PVC are phthalate esters prepared from aliphatic C8 alcohols. For high temperature applications higher molecular weight esters are used, e.g., from mellitic acid, which are resistant to volatilisation and are used for PVC interiors in cars (to prevent fogging of windscreens). [Pg.94]

The ice on a car windscreen will also melt when squirted with de-icer. Similarly, we add anti-freeze to the water circulating in a car radiator to prevent it freezing the radiator would probably crack on freezing without it see the note on p. 194. [Pg.220]

It is used in windows, windscreens, sun visions and in air crafts, It is also used in optical fibres, contact lens, lighting fixtures, biological specimen preservation, dentures, presentation articles, automobile surface coatings, etc. [Pg.181]

When a monitoring site is selected, it is important to take account of environmental features. For example, ozone measured in or near automotive traffic can drop to 50% of the areawide value, owing to reaction with the nitric oxide firom exhaust emission. Ozone measured 7.5 m from a large tree in green leaf can drop to 70% of the areawide value, but it may also be reduced within 1 m of shrubs and grass. Paint, asphalt, concrete, dry soil, and dead vegetation are not as reactive and so have less effect. Peak ozone values observed in sunlit windscreened. [Pg.247]

However, it recognises that with this basic geometry involving linear motion it is often possible to substitute other shapes for one of the sliding members, for example a product such as a windscreen wiper blade. [Pg.226]

Ice on a car windscreen will disappear as you drive along, even without the heater on. Explain why this happens. [Pg.17]

Bullets raked across the windscreen, punching craters in the driver, the lieutenant and the seat right in front. The noise rattled around inside the car and inside Fitz s head. His face was warm and wet and he had to glance... [Pg.40]
