Well volume

As discussed before, groundwater samples can be collected when a sufficient volume of water has been removed from the well (e.g., three to five well volumes) and groundwater parameters have stabilized. If parameters have not stabilized after five well volumes have been removed, then the well may be sampled (acceptance of sampling following the fifth purge volume is dependent on the study objectives). Table 1 summarizes the criteria used for establishing the stability of groundwater parameters. The time intervals between the parameter measurements depend on the well characteristics and the hydraulic properties of the aquifer and must be sufficiently spaced to provide results representative of aquifer properties. ... [Pg.804]

USEPA = United States Environmental Protection Agency. No specified time interval between field measurements. If the purge volume is small, collect measurements with enough frequency to evaluate stabihty. If the purge volume is large, take field measurements approximately 15 min apart. FLDEP = Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Allowable variation between two consecutive readings taken at least 2-3 min apart following the collection of one well volume. ... [Pg.806]

Charybdis Technologies. In the Calypso Reaction Block , multi-well reaetion arrays are designed for both solution and solid-phase synthesis applications. Well volumes range from 2 to 10 mL, pressures up to 207 kPa (30 psi), and temperatures from —80 to +180°C. [Pg.251]

To calculate the well casing volume we need to know the depth of the well, the diameter of the casing, and the depth to groundwater on the day of sampling. Having this information on hand, we can calculate the well volume, using the following formula ... [Pg.145]

To record the well parameters and the well volume calculations and to document groundwater sampling, we use a Groundwater Sampling Form similar to one shown in Appendix 16. [Pg.145]

To purge a well with a pump and sample it with a bailer, we follow these steps Well volume measurements... [Pg.146]

Calculate the well volume and the purge volume and record them on the Groundwater Sampling Form. [Pg.147]

After one well volume has been removed, measure the indicator parameters (pH, temperature, and conductivity) either in a flow-through cell or after collecting a sample from the discharge end of the pump into a plastic cup. Record the measurements on the Groundwater Sampling Form. [Pg.147]

The 3—5 well volume purge approach has a number of disadvantages ... [Pg.38]

Then, why do Nichia s GaN lasers work at all The answer lies with two other serious non-uniformities present in the laser (1) an accidental non-uniformity within the quantum well due to spinodal decomposition [7], and (2) the intentional use of quantum wells and heterostructures to define sheets of high population inversion and photon confinement. The former effect creates a granulated, random array of InN-rich quantum boxes within the intended quantum well volume, which confine the population inversion within these nanoscopic regions of high optical quality. While the random... [Pg.632]

Less than 1 gL volume loss was detected in the corner wells. Each point represents a well volume at the time of the audit. Fig. 4. In 1985, R. Houghten reported on peptide synthesis carried on a resin sealed in porous polypropylene packets [11], The pore size of the polypropylene mesh (74 pm) allows for free access of chemicals to and from the contained resin. Each packet or tea bag can be individually labeled to identify the peptide synthesized on the entrapped polymer. Many tea bags can be combined in the same reaction to carry out common synthetic steps, such as washing and deprotection. The packets are sorted in separate reaction vessels according to the specific amino acid that will be coupled next. Cleavage, depending on the amount of used resin, can be carried out in separate vessels or in a 96-well microtiter plate with 2-mL well volume. In the original paper [11], 248 different tridecapeptides were synthesized in 10- to 20-mg quantities and characterized in less than four weeks. [Pg.64]

Biotin-derivatized carbohydrates can be immobilized on a streptavidin-coated substrate through the affinity interaction of the streptavidin-biotin pair to create carbohydrate microarrays. Biotin-derivatized carbohydrates include carbohydrate hgands that are biotinylated via a short aliphatic spacer or at the peptide part of glycopeptides. Several commercially available streptavidin-coated microweU plates can be apphed when biotin-derivatized carbohydrates are available, such as the streptavidin-coated 384-well plate with a well volume 25 pi (4,18) and a streptavidin-coated 192-spot shde format (27). The first was designed to be in maximal proximity to the traditional immunochemical assay using commercial streptavidin-coated black 384-well plates. [Pg.380]

Samples thatrepresent groundwater are collected after several well volumes have been discarded unless little water is available. The sample is acidified promptly for preservation. If one of the radionuclides is not stable in acid, a second sample is collected and preserved as appropriate. [Pg.87]
