Web-based services

The IUCr Web site (http //www.iucr.org/iucr-top/cif/) lists other software that can be used to manipulate or visualize CIF content. Most importantly, they maintain a Web-based service that provides a classihed validation report on any format-compliant CIF. This service can be accessed at http //checkcif.iucr.org/. CheckCIF reports can be lengthy, but it is wise to scan them carefully, particularly the most serious Class A alerts. Journal editors and their referees will often indicate the types of alerts that they would normally expect to be fixed by the authors before publication. 

The web is not used only to reach customers, it is also a valuable tool for the support of financial advisors. These are the internal clients of a financial service provider. Web-based services support the financial advisors so they can better serve their clients. This leads not only to customer loyalty towards the advisor, but also creates disincentives for advisors in switching firms (Roth and Jackson 1995). In addition, web-based services provide an alternative channel of communication between the firm and the customer, so that the customer-firm relationship is not under a monopoly control by the network of financial advisors. 

The development of the appropriate engine and the conceptualization of the web-based service was a significant step in building the system. However, its eventual success was critically dependent on the business plan. We attribute the successful adoption to two key characteristics of the business plan ... 

No particular expertise was expected on the part of the client institutions either in financial engineering or in web-based services. However, the clients performance specifications were adhered too. Much as a new ear buyer can be satisfied with a particular automobile without knowledge of the complex electronic controls running the engine under the hood, so the clients of Prometeia were satisfied with the services provided by the web-based system and the Personal Financial Tools, without being aware of the advanced technology behind the user-interface. 

In the context of combinatorial chemistry, as well as in natural products chemistry, it is quite possible that the analyte of interest is not contained in spectrum databases. In recent years, the use of structural (or compound) databases for structure elucidation has increased due to the evolution of web-based services such as PubChem [218] and ChemSpider [259], with approximately 26 million entries each. These databases do not generally contain spectra (there are some exceptions) and as such only provide information about compounds that have been documented to exist. Although this is a smaller subset of possible structures for a given molecular formula than generating all mathematically possible structures, the same principles apply to determining the correct one as for generated structrues, without the guarantee that the correct struc-...

STN Easy a new Web-based service, this provides point-and-click WWW access to selected databases on STN. Anyone can use it to find and display information about science and technology. It offers two levels of searching basic (no experience in scientific searching required) and advanced (see STN Easy WWW Access to STN Databases). 

The JME Editor is a Java program which allows one to draw, edit, and display molecules and reactions directly within a web page and may also be used as an application in a stand-alone mode. The editor was originally developed for use in an in-house web-based chemoinformatics system but because of many requests it was released to the public. The JME currently is probably the most popular molecule entry system written in Java. Internet sites that use the JME applet include several structure databases, property prediction services, various chemoinformatics tools (such as for generation of 3D structures or molecular orbital visualization), and interactive sites focused on chemistry education [209]. 

The Web-based graphical user interface permits a choice from numerous criteria and the performance of rapid searches. This service, based on the chemistry information toolkit CACTVS, provides complex Boolean searches. Flexible substructure searches have also been implemented. Users can conduct 3D pharmacophore queries in up to 25 conformations pre-calculated for each compound. Numerous output formats as well as 2D and 3D visuaHzation options are supplied. It is possible to export search results in various forms and with choices for data contents in the exported files, for structure sets ranging in size from a single compound to the entire database. Additional information and down-loadable files (in various formats) can be obtained from this service. 

The electronic data analysis service (ELECTRAS), which was developed at the Com-puter-Chemie-Centrum of the University of Erlangen-Ntlmberg through a project supported by the DFN-Verein and the BMBF, is a web-based application which presents an interface to various kinds of data analysis methods. Web in the life of the medicinal chemist. One may see the development of alerting services for the primary medicinal chemistry journals. The Web-based information search process could be replaced by a much more structured one based on metadata, derived by automated processing of the original full-text article. To discover new and potentially interesting articles, the user subscribes to the RSS feeds of relevant publishers and can simply search the latest items that appear automatically for keywords of interest. The article download is still necessary, but it may be possible for the client software to automatically invoke bibliographic tools to store the found references. Another application of the Chemical Semantic Web may be as alerting services for new additions to chemical databases where users get alerts for the new additions of structures or reactions. 

Finally, journal web sites and fee-based services can be used with success to find additional references to key topics. Examples of services that are particularly good include the American Chemical Society s Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS http //www.cas.org/) and their journal search page (http //pubs.acs.org/index.html) the Elsevier Scopus search engine (http //info. scopus.com/) and ScienceDirect database (http //www.sciencedirect.com/) and the ISI Web of Knowledge (http //isiwebofknowledge.com/). 

Prices are analyzed in regular market surveys where producers, consumers and merchants across a region are contacted to gather current price level. Results are published in magazines as shown in the following example from the ECN magazine (Todd 2004) or in web-based analysis services. Here, the typical differentiation in spot and contract gets transparent as shown in fig. 38. 

Web-based resumes can be more difficult to print. You need to know how to design and author a website. You ll also need access to a Web hosting service. 

Creating an electronic resume requires different skills than creating printed resumes, so the job seeker should make sure these are skills the person they hire possesses. Web-based resumes are in essence personal webpages created in the style of a resume. This too is a service that some professional resume writers offer. 

Figure 9 shows behaviors that are probably typical of a workstation. As seen from the border, the workstation appears to be used 7 days a week, but not 24 hours per day. The bulk of the traffic is web based with a mix of normal and secure services. In addition, there is a small amount of TCP activity. The lack of visible email activity is noticeable, but not too surprising. It is likely that email to and from this host is handled by a server inside the monitored network.

This review shows that due to the constraints of the analytical three-dimensional models in dealing with realistic boundary, flow, and transport conditions, and the computational complexity involved in numerical schemes, previous multiple-reaction models simplified or avoided three-dimensional models. Additionally, they do not fully utilize the current power of remote computing services provided through the Internet. Due to the lack of web-based remote computing capability, users usually need to install the computational software on their local computers before running them.
