A tank with a fixed cover of plain carbon steel for storing 60°C warm, softened boiler feed water that had a tar-pitch epoxy resin coating showed pits up to 2.5 mm deep after 10 years of service without cathodic protection. Two separate protection systems were built into the tank because the water level varied as a result of service conditions. A ring anode attached to plastic supports was installed near the bottom of the tank and was connected to a potential-controlled protection rectifier. The side walls were protected by three vertical anodes with fixed adjustable protection current equipment. [Pg.459]

For general purposes, including firing hot water boilers and warm air space heaters, package burners are commonly used. In these, the burner is ready assembled together with all its controls and air fan. To install such a burner it is only necessary to connect up to gas and electric supplies and controls (thermostats, etc.). [Pg.263]

Warm water or low-, medium- or high-temperature hot water systems are categorized in Table 27.8. Warm water systems may use heat pumps, fully condensing boilers or similar generators, or reclaimed heat. In many cases the system design may incorporate an alternative heat generator for standby purposes or for extreme whether operation. Under such circumstances the system may continue to function at warm water temperatures or could operate at more conventional LTUW ones. [Pg.407]

Determine the pump power, turbine power, net power output, rate of heat added to the heat exchanger by surface ocean warm water, rate of heat removed from the heat exchanger by deep ocean cooling water, cycle efficiency, boiler pressure, condenser pressure, mass flow rate of surface ocean warm water, and mass flow rate of deep ocean cooling water. [Pg.88]

Ecured off, aud the residuum of sulphate of me thoroughly washed with warm water, and the washings added to the dilute acid. The latter must then be poured off from tho imparities that may have been deposited, aud evaporated in a iesden boiler, over the naked fire, until it acquires a specific gravity of 1.13,... [Pg.252]

In conventional boilers nearly 100 % of the primary energy is converted to heat used in the households to heat up the rooms or to provide warm water. Natural gas and heating oil are today the dominant primary energy sources in the building sector. Over 17 million households in Germany use fossil primary energy sources in decentralized boilers. Centralized power plant supplies the needed electrical power to households via the European distribution network. [Pg.128]

During Tests 3, 4, 5, and 6, additional atmospheric water vapor was provided to study the effects of increased relative humidity on the resulting eloud. This was attempted using two different methods. First, a steam boiler and water injeetion system was loeated upwind of the spill point. The injection system consisted of an array of spray nozzles, half for steam and half for warm water located approximately 25 m upwind of the release point. The spray system was 22 m long and was located approximately 3 m above the ground. The nozzles were oriented horizontally and pointed upwind from the spill point. The second technique involved a shallow pond, 250 m X 600 m, which was constructed upwind of the spill point. [Pg.524]

Gas or oil fuel is burned in a furnace or boiler (heat exchanger) to heat air or water, or to make steam that carries the heat absorbed from the combustion process to the rooms in the house, as shovra in Figure 2. This IS accomplished by circulating the warm air through ducts directly to the rooms, or by circulating hot water or steam through pipes to baseboard hot water con-... [Pg.539]

Boiler vents are valves located at the top of a boiler. They are opened to permit air to be bled from a boiler when filling it with water and when initially raising steam. They are also opened during a boiler drain-down to prevent formation of an internal vacuum, which could cause the shell to collapse or other damage to occur. During typical HP boiler warm-up, the boiler vents are kept open until 25 psig steam pressure is registered. [Pg.80]

The weaker the acid, the longer it should be heated for. Do not allow evaporation of the liquid B. inside. Do not boil. Maintain temperature below 50° C or 122° F. Since we are using pickle jars, and not pyrex, they can shatter easily if heated or cooled too quickly. It is recommended using a double boiler with hot (not boiling) water to warm the solution. To cool, simply turn off the heat source and allow the solution to slowly return to room temperature. [Pg.10]

There are two principal approaches to build OTEC power plants. The first approach called the open OTEC cycle involves a flash boiler to obtain steam directly from the warm surface ocean water. The open OTEC cycle requires a very large turbine. The second approach is called the closed OTEC cycle, which involves heat exchangers and a secondary thermodynamic working fluid such as ammonia or freon to reduce the size of the plant. [Pg.85]
