W-Propyl acetate

VALERIANIC ACID n CH,(CH,),COOH (w Propyl acetic acid — Pentane acid) when shaken with water at 16° two layers are formed. [Pg.348]

Solvent residues from printing and adhesives have the potential to cause food tainting. Typical solvents used in printing with characteristic, easily detectable odors are aliphatic esters, such as ethyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, and w-propyl acetate, the alcohols isopropyl alcohol and w-propyl alcohol and hydrocarbon mixtures, particularly aromatics. Regular tests are carried out by printers of food packaging to ensure that the concentrations of solvent residues are maintained below the odor and tainting threshold levels. The most widely used analytical technique to measure the levels of solvent residues is GC head-space analysis. Portions of the packaging are placed in sealed vials or other suitable containers and heated... [Pg.1603]

The comparison of the minimum attainable TAC for these three systems, as well as the acetic acid dehydration system without any entrainer, is shown in Table 9.13. From the table, one can observe that the no-entrainer system has the highest TAC and the isobutyl acetate system is most favorable for this feed composition and product specification requirements. The TAC for the isobutyl acetate system is only about 55% of the no-entrainer system, which shows that a large saving can be made by using the isobutyl acetate system. Notice that this finding is in general agreement with the industrial applications. (See patents by Costantini et al. and Parten and Ure ). The above two patents also found isobutyl acetate as a favorable entrainer for the separation of acetic acid and water. Another earher patent by Othmer found w-propyl acetate to be useful as an entrainer for this system. The patent by Mitsui Petrochemical Industries found n-butyl acetate to be... [Pg.253]

Before leaving this section, it should be pointed out that the type III flowsheet is probably the most general configuration for acetic acid esterification. In addition to BuAc and AmAc systems, the production of w-propyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, isoamyl acetate, and -hexyl acetate also fall into this category when economic factors arc taken into consideration. [Pg.174]

The ketones are readily prepared, for example, acetophenone from benzene, acetyl chloride (or acetic anhydride) and aluminium chloride by the Friedel and Crafts reaction ethyl benzyl ketones by passing a mixture of phenylacetic acid and propionic acid over thoria at 450° and w-propyl- p-phenylethylketone by circulating a mixture of hydrocinnamio acid and n-butyrio acid over thoria (for further details, see under Aromatic Ketones, Sections IV,136, IV,137 and IV,141). [Pg.510]

ACETIC ACID, w-PROPYL ESTER (109-60-4) Forms explosive mixture with air (flash point 58°F/14°C). Violent reaction with strong oxidizers. Incompatible with strong acids, nitrates, strong acids. Attacks some plastics, rubber, and coatings. Flow or agitation of substance may generate electrostatic charges due to low conductivity. [Pg.12]

This means the saponification equivalent must equal the molecular weight of the ester. N-propyl acetate (C5H10O2) has M.W. = 102, Therefore, the saponification equivalent of n-propyl acetate is 102. [Pg.811]
