Electrostatic charge generation

Full scale mixing studies were conducted without incident using 100, 250, 500, and 1,000 pound batch sizes. Electrostatic charge generation during the blending cycle was several orders of magnitude below that required for initiation. 

Electrostatic charge generation and risk of spark ignition are very low. 

Polyurethanes find an application where they dissipate electrostatic charges generated in rollers and items such as chute liners. There are two main routes to obtain these properties. The classical method is to add conductive graphite or fine metal to the polyurethane. The major disadvantage is the high loading of the material, which reduces the physical properties. Design of electrostatic classifiers and precipitators is based on the principle that the electrostatic charge generated on a particle is proportional to the particle surface area. Furthermore, the behavior of particles in an electric field is controlled by the presence and amount of the electrostatic charge residing on the particle surfaces. 

To date there is no information available on the possibility of initiating fast reactions in the metal azides by electrostatic charges generated by shock waves.
