Visible Human Project

So much about the vision - what about the route The Physiome Project will - like the Genome and Visible Human projects - crucially depend on the ability to develop the necessary tools for its own successful implementation. Apart from obtaining useful data and building representative databases, this primarily includes the capacity to devise appropriate algorithms to model physiological function.

Aiming to bring the benefits of advanced technology to the healthcare profession, other NLM programs, like the Visible Human Project, offer new opportunities to study human anatomy and options to further medical research. The Visible Human Project " is essentially a database of electronic transverse CT, MRI, and cross section images from an entire female and male human cadaver. 

The Visible Human Project is a three-dimensional representation of the male and female body. The current phase deals with transverse CT, MR, and cryosection images at 1-mm intervals. 

Going further up the scale from molecular modeling, here are some pioneering papers in relation to medical modeling. The use of interactive 3D atlases on medical workstations is primarily focused on education and surgery. As an example, K.-H. HOhne s pioneering Voxel-Man series of atlases (H6hne 2004) was initiated by the visible human project " (Fig. 9.6). Atlases for brain surgery (e.g. the Cerefy Brain atlas family Nowinski et al. 2005) now become probabilistic, based on a large number of patient studies.

Since all is ultimately consciousness, mind (as Buddhist metaphysics terms consciousness) is the builder of all and the source of the illusion of separateness. It is by the skillful use of the image-building faculty of consciousness (imagination) that we fashion the tools for our liberation. The subjectivity of inner vision does not diminish its reality value. It is real on its own level. Such visions are not hallucinations, because their reality is that of the human psyche. They are symbols in which the highest knowledge and the noblest endeavor of the human mind are embodied. Visualization is the creative process of spiritual projection, through which inner experience is translated into visible form, comparable to the creative act of an artist whose subjective idea, emotion, or vision is transformed into an objective work of art which then takes on a reality of its own, independent of the creator. 

This third edition of Analytical Chemistry for Technicians is the culmination and final product of a series of four projects funded by the National Science Foundation s Advanced Technological Education Program and two supporting grants from the DuPont Company. The grant funds have enabled me to utilize an almost limitless reservoir of human and other resources in the development and completion of this manuscript and to vastly improve and update the previous edition. A visible example is the CD that accompanies this book. This CD, which was not part of the previous editions, provides, with a touch of humor, a series of real-world scenarios for students to peruse while studying the related topics in the text.

The impact of the emission cuts is beginning to be noticed, although more with respect to deposition than ecosystem recovery. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency soon reported declines in wet sulphate deposition in the order of 10 to 25% across the eastern United States. There are also possible improvements with respect to dry deposition of sulphates, fine particulate matter concentrations, and visibility. Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems respond slowly, and it is not surprising that evidence of ecosystem improvements would trail behind trends in reduced atmospheric transport and deposition. The EPA, while modest in its assessment of the environmental benefits to be accrued from reduced acidification, has been rather bullish about the investment in human health benefits represented by acid rain controls. It expects SO emission cuts to reduce American health costs by 10 billion annually, through reduced morbidity and mortality, and these savings are projected to rise to 40 billion annually by 2010 (EPA 1995).
