Nonwoven technologies that employ machinery and processing principles traditionally used to manufacture textile, paper, or extmded materials, when viewed collectively, form what may be termed the primary or basic nonwoven fabric manufacturing systems. In order to illustrate some of the basic aspects of the nonlinear optical response of materials, we first discuss the anliannonic oscillator model. This treatment may be viewed as the extension of the classical Lorentz model of the response of an atom or molecule to include nonlinear effects. Improved sensitivities can be attained by the use of longer collection times, more efficient mass transport or pulsed wavefomis to eliminate charging currents from the small faradic currents.
