To date, the usual way of recording the LEED pattern is a light-sensitive video camera with a suitable image-processing system. In older systems movable Earaday cups (EC) were used which detected the electron current directly. Because of long data acquisition times and the problems of transferring motion into UHV, these systems are mostly out of use nowadays. [Pg.73]

This test can be performed manually or with automated video/software systems. Manual labor is not as high throughput as automated behavioral tracking software, and the latency of the observer to react can reduce the accuracy or data acquisition. Regardless of manual or automatic observation, the number of mice that can be tested depends on the duration of the test (6 min is enough to obtain reliable data and to determine significance in this test therefore, 10 mice could be done per hour). [Pg.274]

Over the last decade both the speed and accuracy of data acquisition and the sensitivity of the LEED experiment have been significantly improved. In most structure determination experiments the LEED patterns are displayed on a phosphor screen. LEED I-V curves are then measured by photometric or photographic means. Fast data acquisition systems have been developed that record LEED patterns with video cameras interfaced to computers and generate I-V curves during the experiment./3,4/ The sensitivity of LEED is also being greatly increased with the development of instruments that can detect single... [Pg.26]

Two other computer facilities are a data collection system which monitors remotely located data acquisition and experiment-control computers via asynchronous serial lines and the two Evans and Sutherland LDS-1 interactive graphics terminals. A PDP 10 included in the network configuration as an alternate file transport concentrator and auxiliary network development machine also performs the role of worker computer with the Evans and Sutherland display equipment. Other subnetworks have been designed for inclusion in the Octopus network to direct the on-line operation of LLL high-speed printer and microfilm recorder output facilities, to administer a second, expanded television monitor system providing 256 channels of video input for distribution to 512 additional monitors, and to control a CDC on-line tape library of 8.7 x 10 bits scheduled for delivery in 1975. The Computer Hardcopy Output Recording System (CHORS) concentrators are two Modcomp II computers, and TMDS-II will utilize two PDP 11/45s both subnetworks are to become operational during the... [Pg.292]

A TLC plate must be taken as a bank of information that needs to be collected and processed. It is much better and quicker to divide a plate into a large number of small pixels (more than 500,(X)0 with a limited number of bits of information, usually 7 to 8 bits—256 levels) than to measure a plate with a big scanning slit (a usual slit area is larger than 100 pixels, with bigger number of bits, normally 12 to 16 bits—65536 levels). TLC is a planar technique and is, like a photo, more reliable when it is described with a larger number of pixels. We hope that our arguments will convince the analyst to move in the direction of the new video-oriented data-acquisition and processing procedures usable in research and routine QTLC. [Pg.305]

The computer in a data acquisition system periodically samples the values of variables and allows sample variables from many sources to be input to the computer with appropriate programming. If no control function is associated with the system the computer then outputs the information for permanent storage in hard disk/diskettes and display through video monitors and printers... [Pg.13]
