Now the justification using Eq. (27) is basically the idea that the horizontal and vertical approximations operate at mutually exclusive sites in the hamiltonian, so that one can expect the approximations to be orthogonal to (or decouple from, or commute with) one another. Of course, the subhamiltonians themselves make it clear that all terms in the hamiltonian come into play in determining correlation effects. [Pg.101]

Recent experimentshave recorded spectra for these clusters. Zwier et for instance, have detected fluorescence spectra from the B state of Hg- Ar2, shifted by about 120 cm to the blue of the Hg line. They have also observed A-state fluorescence for this cluster shifted to the red by about the same amount than for the Hg--Ar molecule. This is consistent with our calculation of -114 cm red shift of the Hg- Ar2 A state. On the other hand, we predict two blue-shifted progressions with maxima at H-95 and H-177 cm . In the experiment there is no evidence for any fluorescence beyond -1-150 cm . One simple reason for this discrepancy can be the inaccuracy of the vertical approximation in calculating the shifts. We have checked this approximation by changing slightly the internuclear distance Rq at which the calculation was made. It became clear that since we are in the region of the repulsive branch of the B potential (see Fig. 1), a small change in Rq can affect the shifts by as much as 20 or 30 cm . It will be important in the future to compute exactly the absorption spectrum of this complex to assess the validity of our approximate calculations. [Pg.487]

The vertical position is preferred if the plot space is tight. Horizontal vessels are easier to support and are preferred when large Hquid surge volumes are required. The Hquid level displacement height for a unit volume is much less for a horizontal vessel than for a vertical vessel, which makes the control range shorter than for a vertical vessel. The displacement height per unit volume is only approximately linear on horizontal vessel when the level is near the center line, however. This can be a problem if the normal Hquid level is too low or too high and the instniments are not tuned for quick response. [Pg.75]
