Vectors types

Several vectors have been used in an attempt to deliver the cf gene to the airway epithelial cells of sufferers. The most notable systems include adenoviruses and cationic liposomes. Vector delivery to the target cells can be achieved directly by aerosol technology. Delivery of cftr cDNA to airway epithelial cells (and subsequent gene expression) has been demonstrated with the use of both vector types. However, in order to be of therapeutic benefit, it is essential that 5-10% of the target cell population receive and express the cftr gene. This level of integration has not been... [Pg.484]

Let us first compare the thermodynamic vector lengths for these fluids. Because these lengths carry units, we discuss each vector type in turn, comparing different liquids on the common Si-based scale of responsiveness for the specified thermodynamic variable. [Pg.370]

The host bacteria used for production of recombinant proteins are usually E. coli, or Bacillus subtilis they may express proteins at 1 % to over 50% of the cellular protein, depending on such variables as the source, promoter structure, and vector type. Generally the proteins are expressed intracellularly, but leader sequences for excretion may be included. In the latter case, the protein is generally excreted into the periplasmic space, which limits the amount that can be produced. Excretion from grampositive species such as B. subtilis sends the product into the culture medium, with little feedback limitation on total expression level. [Pg.277]

Combining Eqs. (A10) with the boundary conditions (All) written in vector form and using constitutive relations such as Eqs. (1) and (2), we obtain a vector-type boundary-value problem, which permits the component concentration profiles to be obtained as functions of the film coordinate. These concentration profiles, in turn, allow one to determine the component fluxes. Thus the boundary-value problem describing the film phenomena has to be solved in conjunction with all other model equations. [Pg.377]

The number of features combined in a vector-type representation is indicative of the dimensionality of the problem space. Low-dimensional representations, on the one hand, allow easy visualization but are most often not very discriminative. Highdimensional representations, on the other hand, such as those encoded in Daylight fingerprints [23], MACCS keys [24], or UNITY fingerprints [25], provide more detailed accounts on structural or chemical variations. However, this is achieved at the cost of visualization. Part of these high-dimensional representations describe specific local features of molecules, and because not all molecules in the data contain these features, gaps or zeros are introduced in the data representation. For certain data mining methods, this could be problematic. In many cases, dimensionality reduction procedures are applied to reduce the complexity of the representation. The reduction of the dimensionality is accomplished by means of 1) variable selection procedures, 2)... [Pg.676]
