SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The chapter shall start with a summary of the functional, technical and operational characteristics of the reactor. Drawings, flow sheets and tables should be provided for illustration and support. Annex III presents items which should be considered in the description. The description shall indicate the dependent and interrelated safety functions of the main reactor components. 

The steam produced by the nuclear core is, of course, radioactive. The radioactivity is primarily N16, a very short-lived isotope (half-life of 7 s) so that the radioactivity of the steam exists from the reactor vessel only during power generation. Carryover of long-lived radioactive particles by the steam supply to the turbine and condensate system is virtually nonexistent.

The BWR is the only light water reactor system that employs bottom-entry control rods. Table 11.3 presents summary descriptive statistics for those relationships for which financial data were available. Descriptive statistics are provided for sales revenue, operating profit, operating margin, concentration of purchases with the top two vendors, share of purchases with the largest alternative vendor, and overall satisfaction with the largest alternative vendor. Again, to protect confidentiality, contribution margin is not disclosed.

Sensory Evaluations. Summary descriptions of the aroma and flavor-by-mouth of the EMB were established by a panel of five trained flavorists. The aroma of the neat sample was described as strong cheesy, strong Romano cheese-like with slight milky, creamy, ketonic and soapy notes. The aroma of the sample in a 0.5% NaCl solution at a level of 0.6% was described as soapy and milky with slight Romano cheese-like, acid and ketonic notes. As we discuss in more detail in Chapter 6, one of the primary goals of studies in a clinical development program is to describe the effect that the test treatment had on study participants so that some inference can be made about the drug s effects on patients who may receive the drug in the future. Summary descriptive statistics of central tendency and dispersion give us better understanding of the typical effect of the test treatment and how varied participants responses were. 

A graphical display such as the one in Figure 9.1, or a table of summary descriptive statistics including the minimum and maximum, may reveal values that are so extreme that they merit additional scrutiny. This is typically accomplished with the use of a listing that provides all values of the laboratory test, the dates and times of the sample collection, and the characteristics of the participant. Such an analysis is not based on aggregate information but rather on an individual observation. If a clinically significant observation were noted a medical reviewer would look to see if the participant s values returned to normal levels or remained abnormal, and if there were any accompanying AEs. 

A common measure of central tendency of continuous outcomes is the mean. In clinical studies employing measurement of continuous variables such as blood pressure, the typical response among participants in a treatment group is represented by this summary descriptive... 

The framework for analyzing MOA begins with a summary description of the postulated MOA. The judgment of whether a postulated MOA is supported by available data takes into account all of the data in a weight of evidence (WOE) approach. MOA analysis must determine the links between the postulated key events and tumor induction including (i) strength, consistency, and specificity of association, (ii) dose-response relationships between the key events and tumor induction,... 

Information to be presented in Module 3 on quality is to be an expansion of the summary descriptions provided in a QOS. As shown in Table 1, the order of presentation is to be same as that utilized for QOSs with subsections under the main headings for each item for a drug substance and a drug product. 

In summary, descriptive exposure parameters are useful and reflect the overall dispositional properties of compounds. They can be used for screening and ranking compounds, comparing exposure changes after changing test conditions, and investigating the relationship between exposure and efficacy/toxicity. 

Numerous other schemes for separating isotopes in flowing gas streams have been conceived and subjected to small-scale test, but none has appeared sufflciently promising to enlist the major development support given the nozzle and UCOR processes. Beyond a summary description, one would like to view, analyze, and display the actual bioassay data. PubChem provides an integrated suite of tools, each presented as an individual tab, for this purpose. One would use the bioactivity summary tool to, at a glance, be able to examine an overview of the bioassays tested for a list of substances or compounds. To be able to subset and analyze substances or compounds tested in a set of bioassays, one would use the structure-activity analysis tool. To view the actual bioassay outcomes, one would use the data table tool.
