One way of calculating the IRR is to plot the NPV against discount rate, and to extrapolate/ interpolate to estimate the discount rate at which the NPV becomes zero, as in the Present Value Profile in Figure 13.16. The alternative method of calculating IRR is by... 

Notice in Figure 4.45 that only the set of profiles that emanate from the initial value (xao, xbo, j/o) = (0.0, 0.8, 0.9) reaches the steady state without an explosion. Our other chosen initial value profiles result in explosions with temperature spikes of y around 5, 9, and 3 near 1, 20, and 100 time units, respectively. For all three initial value profiles note the oscillations with shrinking amplitudes around the steady-state values of xa, xb, and y after about 200 time units until convergence in Figure 4.45. On the other hand, the temperature profiles (except around the time of the explosions) settle down to near their steady-state value very smoothly after about 100 time units. This corroborates our 3D image in Figure 4.44 perfectly, in which the trajectory is depicted as oscillating around the steady-state coordinates on a near-level temperature surface.

The opposite is true for an option seller, whose value profile is shown in Exhibit 17.2. The option seller can only lose, not gain. No one in their right mind would therefore sell options for free Instead, the option buyer must pay a premium to the option seller to acquire the rights conferred by the option. This is another important distinction between options and other derivatives (like swaps and forward rate agreements) for which no up-front payment is due.

Ethics is mostly action (what you do) not knowledge (what you know). It is the personahzed way you use your values profile to make value-laden decisions.

Before the surface is folded, the phenomenon made appear infinite gradients and we may think that it is because we have neglected diffusion. To avoid the physically meaningless triple solution and keeping our simple model, we may fit in the triple valued profile a discontinuity figuring a sharp change of concentration (fig.la). If we choose to keep an equation such as (2) with chemical equilibrium between c and c, this gives a constraint on the way to obtain the discontinuous solution (equality of the matter limited by the curve c(x), [l7]).

Examples of customer value profiles for two customers of AutoCo (referred to in step 1 above) are shown in Figure 2.8. We return to the concept of value in Chapter 3. Meanwhile, we will continue to use the AutoCo example to illustrate steps 3 and 4.

It is important to note that changes on value profiles could be impacted by externalities, such as social interaction, or media influence. This study does not take into consideration these externalities. Future work will test changes on value profiles on groups of Industrial Engineering students that have not taken the ethics class. 

Two types of comparisons were performed a comparison of value profiles among groups and classes, one for the pre-survey and one for the post-survey and a comparison between pre- and post-survey for each group and class. 

To identify cross-team differences in value profiles, students were categorized into groups according to the four-member teams that they formed for the analysis of ethical cases using SIMULATE. We compute three team scores associated with each motivational value the mean, the median, and the variance which were computed as the simple average, the median, and the sample variance of the individual motivational values of the team members respectively. 

In statistics, the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test examines the influence of different categorical independent variables on one dependent variable. The two-way ANOVA can determine the main effect of contributions of each independent variable and also identify if there is a significant interaction effect between the independent variables. The preliminary text study examines if the consistency of the answers is influenced by team and/or by case, and if the ethical theory chosen to analyze an ethical dilemma is influenced by team or by case. The influence of gender, year of study (senior, junior, etc.), country of birth, and value profile of the team members were not examined due to a small sample size. 

First, we compared individual values among American citizens, immigrant citi-zens/residents, and Chilean citizens, to verily the hypothesis that students with different nationalities and ethnicities have different value profiles. 

We found that American citizens and immigrant citizens/residents value profiles were very different. American citizens highly rate values related to personal interest like Achievement and Hedonism, while immigrant citizens/residents highly rate values related to collective interest like Tradition (see Fig. 12.6). It is important to note that most of the students in the immigrant citizens/residents group were from Asian countries. 

On the other hand, Chilean citizens have a value profile more similar to American citizens than to the immigrant citizens/residents group. Chilean citizens, like U.S. citizens, also highly rate values related to personal interest the difference is that U.S. citizens value more Achievement while Chilean citizens value more Hedonism. On the collective interest side, both groups give lower rates, but Chilean students value more UniversaUsm while U.S. citizens value more Conformity (see Fig. 12.7). 

To measure the impact of the ethics class in the value profiles of the different groups, we compared individual value profiles obtained before and after the course. We found that there are different statistically significant changes depending on the nationality and ethnicity of the students. 

After taking the ethics class, the results show that American citizens and immigrant citizens/residents value profiles were not as different as prior to taking the class. Immigrant citizens/residents rank higher values related to Achievement, approaching the scores obtained from American citizens. However, Tradition was still a significant difference (see Fig. 12.11).
