UV resists

The properties of SAN resins depend on their acrylonittile content. Both melt viscosity and hardness increase with increasing acrylonittile level. Unnotched impact and flexural strengths depict dramatic maxima at ca 87.5 mol % (78 wt %) acrylonitrile (8). With increasing acrylonitrile content, copolymers show continuous improvements in barrier properties and chemical and uv resistance, but thermal stabiUty deteriorates (9). The glass-transition... [Pg.192]

Polymers are only marginally important in main memories of semiconductor technology, except for polymeric resist films used for chip production. For optical mass memories, however, they are important or even indispensable, being used as substrate material (in WORM, EOD) or for both substrate material and the memory layer (in CD-ROM). Peripheral uses of polymers in the manufacturing process of optical storage media are, eg, as binder for dye-in-polymer layers or as surfacing layers, protective overcoatings, uv-resist films, photopolymerization lacquers for repHcation, etc. [Pg.138]

Monomers such as methyl methacrylate [80-62-6] are often used in combination with styrene to modify refractive index and improve uv resistance. Vinyltoluene [25013-15-4] and diaHyl phthalate [131-17-9] are employed as monomers in selective mol ding compositions for thermal improvements. [Pg.314]

The cross-linking reaction mechanism is also influenced by the presence of other monomers. Methyl methacrylate is often used to improve the uv resistance of styrene-based resins. However, the disparate reaction rates of styrene and methacrylate monomer with the fumarate unsaturation not only preclude the use of more than 8% of the methacrylate monomer due to the significant slowing of the cross-linking reaction but also result in undercured products. [Pg.318]

Besides water vapor and gas diffusion, other requirements for good edge sealants are water resistance, uv resistance, heat/cold resistance (—40 to 80°C), adhesion to glass and metal, and good characteristics for appHcation. Polysulfide sealants have maintained an exceUent record in use since the 1950s. Development of new polysulfides and sealant formulations continues in order to meet market needs of the 1990s. [Pg.458]

While detailed discussion of the merits of PEN fibres is largely outside the scope of this book mention may be made of the success in preliminary trials of (yacht) sailcloths made from PEN fibre. PEN fibres have a modulus roughly 2.5 X that of PET, exhibit excellent flex life and also show very good UV resistance. It is understood that the one yacht fitted with PEN sailcloth in the 1996 Olympics won the gold medal in its event. [Pg.724]

P.V.D.F. is used where very high UV resistance is required, e.g. external building cladding in tropical countries. [Pg.747]

They are used where prolonged exposure to high UV resistance is required, such as prestige building cladding in tropical and sub-tropical climates. [Pg.751]

The thermal and UV resistance will depend on the stabiliser systems used. The hardness of the coating will depend on the amount and type of plasticiser used. Correct selection of the plasticiser can permit the use of the plastisols at high or low temperatures, provide fire resistance or oil resistance. Plastisols can be produced in a range of gloss levels from 80 units down to 10 gloss units. [Pg.751]

The chassis is made from a 1/4 in. sheet of either ABS or TPO vacuum formed into a tub and reinforced with reinforced pultruded glass fiber-TS polyester plastic tubing. The hood and other products are being made from a 20 mm thick sandwich of thermo-formed PPO-alloy skins, glass fabric infused with thermosetting vinyl ester, and a urethane foam core. The bumper and front fascia is thermoformed from a polyolefin elastomer sheet with an UV-resistant cap layer of DuPont s Tediar PVF film. The dash and... [Pg.254]

Polyarylate It is a form of aromatic polyester (amorphous) exhibiting an excellent balance of properties such as stiffness, UV resistance, combustion resistance, high heat-distortion temperature, low notch sensitivity, and good electrical insulating values. It is used for solar glazing, safety equipment, electrical hardware, transportation components and in the construction industry. [Pg.428]

Ishikawa s polymers readily underwent photochemical degradation at specific frequencies, an observation which suggested their application as positive UV resists. [Pg.40]

A rapidly increasing number of publications on polysilanes documents current interest in these polymers (JJ. Polysilanes are potentially applicable in microlithography as high resolution UV-resists (2J, imageable etch barriers ), or contrast enhancement layers (4). They have been successfully used as precursors to Si-C fibers (5J and ceramic reinforcing agents ((L). Polysilanes have also initiated polymerization of vinyl monomers (J ). Doping of polysilanes have increased their conductivity to the level of semiconductors (8). Very recently polysilanes were used as photoconductors (9) and non-linear optical materials (10b... [Pg.78]
