Using Internet addresses - note that the locations given in the chapter may change as sites are updated you can make a key-word search using a searching system or search engine to find a particular website if necessary. 

The presentation gives some definitions that are important to the selection use and production of reference materials and provides doeumentation for further reading and study. There is discussion on the different types of reference materials with some insight into their production process. This is followed by information relevant to selection and use of reference materials with a discussion on the relation between reference materials and traceability, which is very important in the context of this presentation. Finally some internet addresses are given of the major certified reference materials producers. 

Since the last edition of this book, the internet has become a valuable source of information on ADRs and pharmacovigilance. The various directives, regulations and guidehnes referred to in this chapter are now readily available from this source, and the reader will be able to obtain the full versions of all such documents. A paper by Cobert and Silvey contains much useful information and many internet addresses.

In following the original plan, many figures, structures, discussions of the methods, and illustrations of the data have been incorporated. Some tables have been reorganized. In some cases tables have been printed twice although they contain the same data, they are arranged by different criteria. The intent is to make the data easier for the researcher to access and use. Some Internet addresses that can serve as a supplementary resource are included. Despite the numerous additions, the volume remains compact and accessible. 

For additives, on the other hand, the list is a partial list currently comprising 289 substances fully evaluated by the SCF whose toxicological characteristics do not necessitate the imposition of any restriction on use other than the overall migration limit. 204 additional substances, fully evaluated by the SCF and 185 of which require a restriction on their use according to the SCF, will be added to the list before long. All of the more important information on the evaluation of substances is to be found in the document entitled Synoptic which is to be distributed on the Internet (address http //cpf.jrc.it/webpack/). 

In fact, any namespace string is just an identifier, http //zvon.org/my/namespace and This-is-my-namespace are equally valid namespaces the first is just visually similar to an Internet address. XML documents containing namespaces can be used without the Internet, and URL addresses that lead to the same location on the Internet would represent two different namespaces if they differ by just a single character. 

Starting from the very foundations of mass spectrometry, this book presents all the important techniques developed up to today. It describes many analytical methods based on these techniques and emphasizes their usefulness by numerous examples. The reader will also find the necessary information for the interpretation of data. A series of graduated exercises allows the reader to check his or her understanding of the subject. Numerous references are given for those who wish to go deeper into some subjects. Important Internet addresses are also provided. We hope that this new edition will prove useful to students, teachers and researchers. 

You can gain access to the Internet either through a LAN at your place of work or from home via a modem connected to a dial-in service provider over the telephone line. You do not need to understand the technology of the network to use it - most of it is invisible to the user. However, if you do wish to understand more, sources such as Gralla (1996) and Winship and McNab (2000) are recommended. What you do need to know are the options available to you in terms of using its facilities and their relative merits or disadvantages. You also need to understand a little about the nature of Internet addresses.

The use of company names, indications and brands in an internet address is permitted. 

The entire study was performed in late 2002. The authors are aware that the selection is arbitrarily and that many more interesting sources for information on environmental chemicals exist worldwide. The possibility of the move or remove of sites exists. The chosen databases which are listed together with their later used abbreviations and their Internet address (URL = Uniform Resource Locator) are given in Table 1. Three different types of numerical databases can be distinguished ... 

Never before the Internet arrived was such valuable corporate employment information made so abundantly and easily available to job seekers. (Even chemists who do not own computers or subscribe to Internet services can use the hardware, software, and services furnished by free public libraries.) Now, a growing number of pharmaceutical firms maintain richly detailed Web sites. The Internet addresses of nearly 400 companies and institutions that placed chemist-wanted advertisements during 1997-1999 appear in Appendix B. A great many of these sites devote one or more pages to employment opportunities where job seekers can expect to find information on a variety of related topics. The subjects include application guidelines, job banks and lines, employee benefits, and the pharmaceutical businesses in which the company engages. PerSeptive Biosystems and Protein Design Labs state on their Web sites the salaries they offer to chemists. Whether employees receive stock options or may purchase discounted company stock is disclosed on some corporate Web sites.
