Phosphoms trichloride is also used in the manufacture of antifoam agents, catalysts, dyes and pigments, as well as pharmaceutical and quaternary compounds, and is commonly used as a chlorinating agent. Phosphoms trichloride is used to make phosphoms oxychloride, which is used in the manufacture of adsorbents for air filters, antifoam agents, dyes and pigments, mineral-processing materials, pharmaceuticals (qv), and solvents. These uses represented 32,000 t of PCl in 1988 and 30,000 t in 1994. 

Hexachloroethane has been suggested as a degasifter in the manufacture of aluminum and magnesium metals. Hexachloroethane has been used as a chain-transfer agent in the radiochemical emulsion preparation of propylene tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (152). It has also been used as a chlorinating agent in the production of methyl chloride from methane (153). 

Used industrially for the manufacture of phosphorus oxychloride, phosphorus pentachlor-ide, phosphites, organophosphorus pesticides, surfactants, gasoline additives, plasticizers, dyestuffs used as a chlorinating agent and catalyst. Used to prepare rubber surfaces for electrodeposition of metal. Used as an ingredient of textile finishing agents. 

This material is used as a chlorinating agent for both nitrogen and sulfur based vesicants. Required in the manufacture of methylphosphonic dichloride (C01-C046). 

Hypochlorous acid is used in bleaching fibers and textiles as an antiseptic and as a disinfectant for purification. It also is used as a chlorinating agent for aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. 

Phosphorus pentachloride is used as a chlorinating agent in many organic syntheses, such as production of alkyl and acid chlorides. It also is a catalyst in manufacturing acetylcellulose. 

Sulfurous oxychloride is used as a chlorinating agent for making sulfoxides and acyl chlorides. It also is used in pesticide formulations and to prepare anhydrous metal halides from their hydrated halides or hydroxides. 

Sodium hydroxide has many different uses in the chemical industry. Considerable amounts are used in the manufacture of paper and to make sodium hypochlorite for use in disinfectants and bleaches. Chlorine is also used to produce vinyl chloride, the starting material for the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and in water purification. Hydrochloric acid may be prepared by the direct reaction of chlorine and hydrogen gas or by the reaction of sodium chloride and sulfuric acid. It is used as a chlorinating agent for metals and organic compounds. 

Tlte catalyst for oxychlorination (6) is a CuCli KCI melt, which is alsu used as a chlorinating agent. 

Applications Phosphorus(V) chloride is mainly used as a chlorination agent in organic chemistry. 

Hydrogen chloride may be used as a chlorinating agent. It is sometimes employed in such a manner that it adds to the double bond as in the preparation of ethyl chloride from ethylene 75 or in the synthesis of vinyl chloride from acetylene 16. Kainer 48 has surveyed the patents dealing with the preparation of vinyl chloride. A review 21 of the patent literature and the apphcation of the Deacon reaction, which uses hydrogen chloride and air, has also been published. Some of the material on this reaction has been mentioned before 26, 82, 61. ... 

Suifuryi Piuoride is a chemically inert gas, unaffected by water even at 150°, but slowly hydrolyzed by strong aqueous alkali. Suifuryi chloride is much less stable than the fluoride, decomposing thermally below 300° and reacting fairly rapidly with water. It fumes strongly in moist air. It can be used as a chlorinating agent. 

OTHER COMMENTS used as a catalyst in the production of polyethylene from ethylene used as a chlorinating agent for aryl or alkyl acids and salts, ketones and aldehydes also used as a dehydrating agent. 

Most synthetic applications of benzotriazoles are based on the acceptor action of the benzotria-zol-l-yl moiety i.e. on the stability of the benzotriazolyl anion. For instance 1-chlorobenzotriazole is used as a chlorinating agent. It transfers a Cl ion to the substrate. An example of this reaction is the chlorination of carbazole in dichloromethane to give 3-chlorocarbazole. 1-Hydroxybenzotriazole is obtained by condensation of l-chloro-2-nitrobenzene with hydrazine ... 

Used as a chlorinating agent and as an oxidant (e. g., in sulfide analysis), in the form of a 25-35% solution of ICI3 in concentrated hydrochloric acid. 

Phosphoms trichloride is used as a chlorinating agent as an intermediate in making gasoline additives, dyes, surfactants, and pesticides in the manufacture of phosphoms pentachloride and phosphorus oxychloride and as a catalyst.
