Only a few cases of immediate-type contact urticaria caused by epoxy-resin compounds have been reported. Of 100,000 employed persons, 28.9 butchers and sausage makers had contact urticaria (Kanerva et al. 1996). The specific cause of the urticaria among butchers was not listed, but in nine of all 815 patients with contact urticaria who participated in the study, the cause was pork. The study does not list the occupation of these nine persons. Northern Europe is an area in which there is large-scale production and consumption of pork.
