The mid-twentieth century marked one of the greatest watersheds of Asian history. The relatively brief Japanese occupation of Southeast Asia and much of China, and its sudden ending with the atomic bombs of August 1945, telescoped what might have been a long-term transition into a dramatic and violent revolution. In essence, imperial constructs were declared to be nation-states, the sole legitimate model of twentieth century politics, sanctioned in the sovereign equality principle of the United Nations charter (1945). 

Since 1994, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has been operating the Cleaner Production programme. The goal of this programme is to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries and countries with economies in transition to improve their productivity while preventing unfavourable impacts on the environment. 

As all the other continental new Member States of the EU,1 Hungary is a country that is undergoing the process of transition to a market economy according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), and shares most of their characteristics with respect to climate policy. 

The United Nations industrial Development Organization (UNlDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to promoting sustainable industrial development in developing countnes and countries with economies in transition It harnesses the joint forces of government and the pnvate sector to foster competitive industrial production, develop international industnal product on and partnerships, and promote socially equitable and environmentally fnendly industnal development... 

In this context, particular attention has to be paid to the developing countries, and countries in transition, as faced a few years ago in a program promoted and supported by the United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) through the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS) established at Padriciano (Trieste, Italy) and implemented after the takeoff in year 1996 for more than a decade (Table 14.1) [9]. 

With the IGBP and LUCC programs proposed by the United Nation in 1995, the studies have been systematic and extensive. With the fast development of economy, the land use has been changed obviously as tall buildings appeared and cultivated land disappeared. It has shown significant regional variations on spatial patterns. Cultivated land use transition is an important part in the transition because its suitability to live and proximity to city (Li et al. 2013). 

It is difficult to find explicit information on the tonnage of hazardous cargo transiting the Mediterranean Sea. However, data collected from official national sources by the United Nations Statistical Division and from estimates based on research done by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and presented to the IMO show that in 1990, the total amount of goods handled (goods loaded/unloaded) in international maritime trade by Mediterranean countries accounted for 1264 x 10 mt, or approximately 16% of the world s total.

By contrast, the bicycle suiwives as basic transportation in the Netherlands and Germany because those nations have a social infrastructure built to make it possible. Those countries have a neighborhood-centered way of life, and the trip distances on a bicycle are often two or three kilometers or less. People cycle slowly out of politeness to others on the crowded streets. Public transit is also far better than in the United States. It is amusing to see a German commuter train station with virtually no auto parking available, but hundreds of bike parking spots.
