Trioctyl amine

Extraction of metals from chloride solutions into kerosene containing trioctyl amine (TOA), as illustrated by Fig. 1.3, has found application in the production of pure Co and Ni metals from their ores, as discussed in Chapter 11. The aqueous phase contains the Co and Ni in addition to other metals in chloride solution, where the chloride concentration goes to 300 g/L (i.e., about 8.5 M). At this high aqueous ionic strength, a rigorous mathematical treatment of the system would require the use of activities in order to explain the extraction... [Pg.163]

Several species, including [MF6] , [MF7]2-, [MFS]3-, [MF9]4- and [M2Fu] , have been detected in HF solutions of the metals, using a selective fluoride ion electrode,41-43 or by 19F NMR studies.42,44"46 These complexes can be extracted by organic solvents IR showed that solutions of trioctyl amine in To or CC14 extract Mv from 1-12 M HF solutions as [MF6]. 47... [Pg.591]

Mixtures of trioctyl amine and 2-ethylhexanol have been employed to extract 1—9% by volume acetic acid from its aqueous solutions. Reverse osmosis for acid separation has been patented and solvent membranes for concentrating acetic acid have been described (58,59). Decalin and trioctylphosphine were selected as solvents (60). Liquid—liquid interfacial kinetics is an especially significant factor in such extractions (61). [Pg.69]

Although effective extractants, both aliphatic amines and organophosphorous compormds proved toxic to microorganisms. To reduce their toxic action, these extractants are blended, in adequate proportion, with low toxidty organic solvents, thus allowing for their use in extractive fermentations. The effect of diluents on the distribution coeffident was different according to the extractant used, as observed by Choudhury and co-workers [96], while evaluating the extractive effidency of Ahquat 336 and trioctyl amine (TOA) in lactic add extractive fermentation. [Pg.121]

Acid sellable extracts (trioctyl-amine freon method) were frozen at -70°C until measurements were made. In those samples in which deoxycytidine was measured tetrahydrouridine (THU) was added to the tube in which the blood was collected to diminish the catabolism of deoxycytidine by deoxycytidine deaminase which is competitively inhibited by THU. Purine and pyrimidine metabolites were measured using high-pressure liquid chromatography as previously reported (Cohen et al., 1978). [Pg.42]

Base catalyzed aromatization of the CHD-bismethylcarbonate copolymers was shown to occur in the presence of trioctyl amine. [Pg.185]

Such experiments show that oxalate, tartrate, and citrate give fairly strong complexes, and indeed these mixtures do not suffer quite such rapid oxidation as the other systems (57, 70). Stability constants for the complexing of U(III) by acetate, 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropionate, nitriloacetate, trans-cyclohexyl-1,2-diaminotetraacetate, ethylenedi-amine tetraacetate, and diethylenetriamine pentaacetate have been reported, but no pure compounds have been isolated (71). Thiocyanate also accelerates oxidation of the uranium, but the blue complex that is formed can be extracted with triethyl phosphate, tributyl phosphate, or better, trioctyl phosphine oxide the organic extract decomposes only slowly (45, 72). [Pg.74]

With an intention to decrease viscosity and to improve hydrodynamic properties (reduction of emulsion-forming tendency) tertiaiy amines are mixed with suitable (also to avoid third phase formation) diluent Tri-n-octalylamine, trilauiylamine, trioctyl metltyl ammonium chloride and commercial products such as Alamine 336, Hostarex A 324 and Aliquat 336 (mixture of cpiatemaiy amines) received the most attention. From various, with relatively low solubility in water polar and non-polar diluents methyl isobutyl ketone, 1-propanol, 1-octanol, 2-octanol, decanol, isodeca-nol, hexane, cyclohexane, benzene, toluene, xylenes, chloroform and methylene chloride should be mentioned. [Pg.127]

The growth or agglomeration of nanoparticles can be decreased by electrostatic stabilization or steric stabilization. Electrostatic stabilization can be achieved by targeted adsorption of ions (H, OH , S04, etc.) on the particle surface. Steric stabilization is achieved by adsorption of long-chain organic molecules (e.g., oleyl amine, oleic acid, trioctyl phosphine, trioctyl phosphine oxide, etc.). ... [Pg.400]
