Tractor unit

The tractor unit, as mentioned, moves on pneumatic wheels or crawler tracks and its aim is to (a) pull the screed, (b) receive the mixture from the truck and transfer it to the paver and (c) provide mechanical, electronic and hydraulic energy for the function of all systems of the device. [Pg.411]

Preventive maintenance on vital equipment, such as tractor units, tanks, pumps, hoses, hard arms, pipelines, and mooring facilities, should be properly scheduled, carried out and documented. This program should be separate from the regulatory inspection. Verify from records. [Pg.197]

In most parts of the world, except India, safflower seed is handled in bulk. In Califomia this is accomplished in large aluminum-sided, bottom-dumping, open-top truck trailers of approximately 10-121 capacity each, two of which are hauled in tandem to a field by a truck tractor unit. The trailers are left by the field to be filled by the farmer, and the tractor unit returns and hauls the full trailers directly to the oil mill or export terminal (in some cases up to 250 km away) or to a closer grain elevator for intermediate storage. In other parts of the United States, safflower is delivered in many types of grain trucking equipment and much of it is delivered to small country elevators where it is stored, cleaned if necessary, and subsequently loaded onto trucks or railroad hopper cars (which can hold between 50 and 701 of safflower seed) for delivery to a buyer. [Pg.1150]

Wheeled Skidder A tractor unit, usually with frame steering and four wheel drive, equipped with a winch or grapple which gathers and skids behind itself loads of full trees, tree length boles logs from the stump area to a roadside landing. Power requirement usually exceeds 70 horsepower. [Pg.435]

Both asphalt pavers consist of two basic parts, the tractor unit and the screed (see Figure 8.9). [Pg.410]

The basic components of a tractor unit are the following hopper, push rollers, conveyor, flow control gates, side arms, augers and automations and control panel. [Pg.411]

The tractor unit also carries all the automations for material handling and the automatic level (grade) and slope control device. [Pg.412]

A tractor unit with semitrailer was available for the truck trials. The driver s cabin was equipped with a CMS system developed by the vehicle manufacturer. The cameras were fixed above the main exterior mirrors on the driver and passenger sides. In addition, the vehicle had conventional exterior mirrors, which could also be folded away for trips wifli the CMS in such a way that the driver was no longer able to use them (see Fig. 9). [Pg.377]

The actual weight that the truck can cany in the United States depends on state-highway load limits, which in turn depend on the net vehicle weight and the number of axles on the tnu (and tractor, when a trailer arrangement is used). The accepted maximum combined total weight of vehicle and cargo is 36,200 kg (80,000 lb). In some states, this is reduced slightly, while in others it is exceeded. [Pg.1982]

Another auxiliaiy unloading system that has proven to be very effective and efficient involves the use of moveable, hydraulically operated truck dumps located at the disposal site. Operationally, the trailer is backed up onto one of the tipping ramps, with or without its tractor. The back of the trailer is opened, and the unit is then tilted upward until the wastes fall out by gravity. The time required for the entire unloading operation typically is about 5 min per trip. [Pg.2241]

At the end of the nineteenth century, virtually all of the gasoline produced (around 6 million barrels) was used as a solvent by industry, including chemical and metallurgical plants and dry cleaning establishments, and as kerosene for domestic stoves and space heaters. But by 1919, when the United States produced S7.5 million barrels of gasoline, S5 percent was consumed by the internal combustion engine (in automobiles, trucks, tractors, and motorboats). [Pg.547]

Petroleum-fueled agricultural tractor developed in the United States. [Pg.1242]

The trucking industry has convinced some states that a tractor trailer can haul two cargo units on interstate highways. The result is that each truck driver can transport twice as much per man-hour. The interstate highway system itself has sped up trucking service. [Pg.33]

Harry Karl Ihrig, an engineer at the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company in the United States, demonstrates the first vehicle powered by a fuel cell—a 20-horsepower farm tractor. [Pg.42]

If the decision is made to produce organic poultry in the small 500-bird mobile unit, the choice between skid or wheeled units arises. Whichever is chosen, the need for a tractor of sufficient size will be necessary, bearing in mind the need to move houses under winter conditions. It is not a fast movement and at least an hour should be allocated to simply move from one land area to the next. [Pg.117]

A conventional four-wheel drive vehicle with a 5 m trailer is adequate for collecting around 500 birds, while a more custom-planned collection service will be necessary for over 750 birds. Concrete or hardcore roadways may service fixed houses, but the mobile units in winter may only be accessible by farm tractors. These may have to ferry the catching modules to and from the waiting collection lorry parked at a convenient location where a fork lift can transfer the full module from the farm trailer to the lorry and reload an empty module to the farm tractor and trailer. All of this requires good communication and coordination between the farm, the catching units and the processor in order to get the chickens into the processing plant with the minimum of delay and stress to the birds. [Pg.121]
