The vaginal contraceptive sponge (Today) contains 1 g of nonoxynol-9 and provides protection for 24 hours. After intercourse, the sponge must be left in place for at least 6 hours before removal, ft is available without a prescription. 

Consequently Ti sponge has quadrupled in price from 1975 to 1980, whereas the price of Zr has only doubled. It is expected that the relative price level of Zr will continue to swing widely, affecting the choice of Zr for some ordnance application. Earlier economic assessments regarding the high cost of Zr are quite invalid today, and it is expected that Zr will continue to remain attractive. The cost of the mineral raw material usedin producing Zr metal is small compared with production costs and changes in the price of zircon are not necessarily reflected in the price of the metal. Whereas historically the adjusted price for the mineral and the metal have been sharply downward, this trend seems to have been revised and in future the metal price will be better correlated with the cost of electric power... 

Hr he first observations of popcorn (PC) polymer formation go back to the beginning of this century when Kondakow (J) studied the polymerization of dimethylbutadiene. The name popcorn polymers, however, is of much more recent origin. It was first used in the U.S. in 1940, where the similarity of appearance of these materials to a sponge or to cauliflower was replaced by the obviously more popular popcorn. Today, it is possible to prepare polymers of this type having no similarity at all to popcorn, but the name is retained. 

Today collagen as a hemostatic agent exists in the microfibrillar form, as a nonwoven fleece or as a sponge produced by the technique of freeze-drying. The physical structure of a sponge offered as a sheet has certain additional characteristics to serve as an effective hemostatic device with excellent handling.

Cleaning implements are also expected to enter the dish liquid market shortly. These implements could be either in the form of a wipe or dish tools like sponges/scourers recently introduced by Procter Gamble in the UK. Wipes are now expanding from personal care applications to cleaning (floor or furniture wipes). The major advantage they offer is convenience for today s busy consumer. Dish tools can add speed to traditional dishwashing. 

The relative installation costs of a sponge rubber ball system and simple chlorination and chlorination with dechlorination for different power stations are illustrated in Fig. 16.6. Dechlorination may be increasingly required where there are enwronmental problems associated with discharge. The cost data are historial but the general relationship is likely to hold with today s prices. Sponge rubber ball systems are more expensive than chlorination installations for all plant sizes, but there is a definite cost advantage when dechlorination is required.
