Purchases of manganese ore are made on the basis of user requirements, individual specifications, and availabiUty. Most grades of manufactured manganese chemicals are subject to government and commercial specifications, many of which apply to specific uses. Prices of metallurgical manganese ore reached a high of 3.78/t in 1990 (Fig. 13). [Pg.523]

Notify a physician immediately. A suggested procedure for physicians or nurses is intravenous administration of 0.3 g (10 mL of a 3% solution) of sodium nitrite at the rate of 2.5 mL/min followed by 12.5 g (50 mL of a 25% solution) of sodium thiosulfate at the same rate. Watch the patient for 24 to 48 h, especially in cases of ingestion or skin absorption. If symptoms reappear, repeat the injections in half the original amounts. These solutions should be kept readily available. In some cases, first aid personnel have been trained to use the intravenous medication subject to government regulations. [Pg.380]

External Control. The use of external control to govern the release of dmgs from dehvery systems has largely been experimental. A number of mechanisms have been explored, and include external sources such as electrical currents, magnetism, ultrasound, temperature changes, and irradiation. [Pg.232]

Accidents in chemical plants make headline news, especially when there is loss of hfe or the general public is affected in even the slightest way. This increases the public s concern and may lead to government action. The terms hazard and risk are defined as follows ... [Pg.795]

Mill Efficiencies The controlling factors conceded to govern the ore-grinding efficiency of cylindrical mills are as follows ... [Pg.1852]

Contracts usually contain clauses to govern the termination of projects upon completion at a specified renewal period or early termination for various reasons. Termination normally requires written notice with a specified time frame for conclusion and removal of... [Pg.65]

In some plants, the operators have free reins to govern the flow in the pipes by opening and closing flow control valves. Strangling a valve reduces the flow and inerea.scs the resistance and pressure in the system... [Pg.116]

The expander is somewhat difficult to govern, and is someluiics used with a helper steam turbine for use in starting and speed control. [Pg.300]

Until ISO 9000 emerged in 1987, the automotive industry used a variety of customer-specific standards to govern a supplier s quality management practices. [Pg.5]

CERCLA requires tlie person in charge of a vessel or facility to notify the National Respan.se Center (NRC) inunediately when there is a release of a designated hazardous substance in an amount equal to or greater than the reportable quantity. CERCLA establishes the reportable quantity for releases of designated liazardous substances at one pound, unless otherwise specified. To ensure that the need for response can be evaluated and any response can be undertaken in a timely fashion, such releases require notification to government officials. [Pg.41]

The reaction of Ab-acetyl-1 -hydroxytryptamine (39) with mesyl chloride (MsCl) in THF in the presence of EtsN provides 1-acetyl-1,2,3,8-tetrahydropyrrolo[2,3-(j] indole (49a, 35%) (70JA343), Ab-acetyl-6-mesyloxytryptamine (50a, 4%), Ab-acetyl-2,3-dihydro-2-oxotryptamine (51a, 5%), l-acetyl-3a-(4-chlorobutoxy)-l,2,3,3a,8,8a-hexahydropyrrolo[2,3-(j]indole (52a, 7%), and Ab-acetyltryptamine (53a, 2%) as shown in Scheme 6 (2000H483). In the same reaction with MsCl, l-hydroxy-Ab-methoxycarbonyltryptamine (34) produces 50b (7%), 51b (34%), and 52b (9%), while the formation of 49b is not observed at all. In the case of Ab-trifluoroacetyl-l-hydroxytryptamine (48), 49c (45%), 50c (8%), 51c (4%), and 52c (6%) are produced. These data suggest that the yield of 49 increases, whereas the yield of 51 decreases in the order of electron-withdrawing ability of Ab substituents (COOMe < COMe < COCF3). Stability of 49 seems to govern the quantity of 51, which is probably formed by hydrolysis of 49. [Pg.111]

The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations require that the gas supply to the meter be governed in all premises other than mines, quarries and factories (Regulation 13). It is practice to govern all premises, but exceptions may be made in categories where it is permissible, and there is advantage in so doing. [Pg.274]

Computers permeate all areas of the plastics industry from the concept of a product design, to raw material, to processing, to marketing, to sales, to recycling, to government and industry regulations, and so on. Computers have their place, but most important is... [Pg.27]

The present Recommendations deal with the acyclic and cyclic forms of monosaccharides and their simple derivatives, as well as with the nomenclature of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. They are additional to the Definitive Rules for the Nomenclature of Organic Chemistry [13,14] and are intended to govern those aspects of the nomenclature of carbohydrates not covered by those rules. [Pg.47]

In the case of Equal Opportunities, avoidance of regulatory fines and access to government approved supplier lists. [Pg.212]

This velocity profile is commonly called drag flow. It is used to model the flow of lubricant between sliding metal surfaces or the flow of polymer in extruders. A pressure-driven flow—typically in the opposite direction—is sometimes superimposed on the drag flow, but we will avoid this complication. Equation (8.51) also represents a limiting case of Couette flow (which is flow between coaxial cylinders, one of which is rotating) when the gap width is small. Equation (8.38) continues to govern convective diffusion in the flat-plate geometry, but the boundary conditions are different. The zero-flux condition applies at both walls, but there is no line of symmetry. Calculations must be made over the entire channel width and not just the half-width. [Pg.290]

TAFs. It is conceivable that different combinations of TAFs with TBP—or one of several recently discovered TBP-like factors (TLFs)—may bind to different promoters, and recent reports suggest that this may account for selective activation noted in various promoters and for the different strengths of certain promoters. TAFs, since they are required for the action of activators, are often called coactivators. There are thus three classes of transcription factors involved in the regulation of class II genes basal factors, coactivators, and activator-repressors (Table 37-A). How these classes of proteins interact to govern both the site and frequency of transcription is a question of central importance. [Pg.351]
