Masabni et al (1996) identified a Ser264 to Thr (threonine) mutation in a resistant biotype of common purslane. This conferred a high level of resistance to atrazine and also to linuron, a substituted urea herbicide. This was the first report of a Ser264 to Thr substitution in higher plants selected under field conditions. Previously, this mutation had only been selected through tissue culture in tobacco and potato (Sigematsu et al, 1989 Smeda etal, 1993). [Pg.115]

Like IM and SU, TP is a slow, tight binding inhibitor with a much greater affinity for the steady state complex than the free enzyme. Mutants of tobacco and soybean resistant to TP have been isolated in tissue culture. Initial analysis suggests ALS in these mutants is desensitized to TP. [Pg.270]

THC does not appear to be carcinogenic, but there is plenty of evidence that the tar derived from cannabis smoke is. Bacteria exposed to cannabis tar develop mutations in the standard Ames test for carcinogenicity (53), and hamster lung cells in tissue culture develop accelerated malignant transformations within 3-6 months of exposure to tobacco or cannabis smoke (54). [Pg.471]
