The Green Chemistry Expert System

The Synthetic methodology assessment for reduction techniques (SMART) module quantifies and categorizes the hazardous substances used in or generated by a chemical reaction. [Pg.7]

The Green synthetic reactions module provides technical information on green synthetic methods. [Pg.7]

The Designing safer chemicals module includes guidance on how chemical substances can be modified to make them safer. [Pg.7]

The Green solvents/reaction conditions module contains technical information on green alternatives to traditional solvent systems. Users can search for green substitute solvents based on physicochemical properties. [Pg.8]

The Green chemistry references module allows users to obtain toxicity and other data about a large number of chemicals and solvents. [Pg.8]

The Green Chemistry Expert System (GCES) can also be used to design green chemistry reactions and reaction conditions. [Pg.23]

Based on these principles, the Green Chemistry initiative supports basic research to provide the chemical tools and methods necessary to design and develop environmentally sound products and processes. The EPA funded a series of basic research projects that consider impacts to human health and the environment in the design of chemical syntheses and other areas of chemistry. One of the outcomes of these efforts is the Green Chemistry Expert System (GCES) [35]. [Pg.257]

Green Chemistry Expert System (GCES) is an expert system developed within the scope of the EPA Green Chemistry program. It includes modules for SMART, reaction databases, chemicals design, solvents database, and literature references for green chemistry. [Pg.272]
