Tetraethylene glycol methacrylate

The DADC monomer has been copolymerized with small amounts of polyfunctional methacryflc or acryflc monomers. For example, 3% triethylene glycol dimethacrylate was used as a flexibiflzing, cross-linking agent with a percarbonate as initiator (26). CR-39 and diethylene glycol diacrylate containing isopropyl percarbonate were irradiated with a mercury lamp to a 92% conversion and then cured at 150°C (27). By a similar two-step process DADC was copolymerized with methyl methacrylate and tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate (28). [Pg.83]

IPN s of 54/46 poly(methyl methacrylate)/poly(ethyl acrylate) were prepared by both the latex and bulk (10) routes. Both IPN s contained 0,4% (W/V) tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDM) crosslinking agent in each polymer. Samples of the latex IPN were film formed on glass petri dishes, All samples were vacuum dried at 60°C to constant weight. [Pg.311]

Sequential IPNs are started with one polymer that is already cross-linked. It is swollen, and a monomer along with an initiator and a cross-linking agent are added and polymerized in place. A typical example (37) is an elastomer such as butadiene or ethyl acrylate cross-linked with divinylbenzene as the first polymer. The monomer that is polymerized in the swollen polymer is styrene or methyl methacrylate cross-linked with divinylbenzene or tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate. The initiator is potassium for butadiene, and benzoin for the other monomers. [Pg.229]

Baldwin and Lees (18) disclosed that VTBN with THP methacrylate can serve to optimize a set of properties based on shear (collar/pin and lap joint) and impact strengths. This balance appears to occur at reactive liquid rubber levels of 7.5-10.0%. These improvements occurred without detriment to storage stability and subsequent curability of the composition. Catena (19) essentially verifies that comparable activity is obtained when VTBN serves as a 10% monomer replacement in anaerobic formulations based on tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate. [Pg.401]

Methacrylate/acrylate latex IPNs were synthesized by a modified emulsion polymerization technique. To 250 ml deionized, deaerated, stirred water at 60 C, 50 ml 10% (w/v) lauryl sodium sulfate solution was added, followed by 5 ml 5% (w/v) potassium persulfate solution. The calculated quantity of monomer I containing 0.4% tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDM) as a crosslinking agent was added at a rate of approximately 2 ml/min. When the first monomer was completely added, a minimum time of 1 hr was allowed for completion of the polymerization. Then a second 5 ml of the potassium persulfate solution was added followed by monomer II, which also contained 0.4% TEGDM. The same reaction conditions as above were followed. The combined amounts of networks I and II were 30% solids in the final latex. This method is referred to as the dropwise addition method. [Pg.75]

A significant difference between acrylic and anaerobic monomers is the degree of acrylate functionality. For rapid cure and dimensional stability, anaerobics use di-, tri-, and tetramethacrylates (the most common monomer being tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate). Structural acrylics are typically formulated using monofunctional methacrylates. The lower crosslink density that results is required for toughening of the acrylic matrix. [Pg.236]

(3-AminopropyOtrimethoxysilane (APS), (3-methacryloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPS), tetraethylene glycol diacrylate (TEGDA), dimethoxyphenyl acetophenone (DMPA), poly-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), trisodium orthophosphate, citric acid, and boric acid were obtained from Aldrich (Milwaukee, WI). In the specific system examined, the poly(methyl methacrylate) contained 0.5% tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker, causing gelation after about 8% conversion, as indicated by the Gi-U-PU plane. The phase separation curve for the ternary system MMA-PMMA- U is indicated by the line C-D-A-E. The inset in Figure 13.20 shows the actual experimentally determined curve, with data points just behind the MMA-PMMA- U face of the tetrahedron. Triblock copolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate) at terminal ends with side chains containing an average of eight oxyethylene units each and a middle joining block of polystyrene were complexed with lithium perchlorate in tetrahydrofuran and cast into films (167). The polystyrene block markedly improved filmforming characteristics and mechanical properties, but lowered ion conductivity. Addition of methyl tetraethylene glycol increased ion conductivity by a factor of about five. The synthesis and preparation of other polymers useful for complexing cations have been described (168). [Pg.179]
