Terbutalin

Clenbuterol [37148-27-9] C 2H gCl2N20, (6) (54), a nonphenolic analogue of terbutaline, is not susceptible to COMT or to conjugation. It has a long plasma half-life (20 h), but does not seem to differ ia pharmacological half-life from albuterol (55). [Pg.440]

Most of the chiral membrane-assisted applications can be considered as a modality of liquid-liquid extraction, and will be discussed in the next section. However, it is worth mentioning here a device developed by Keurentjes et al., in which two miscible chiral liquids with opposing enantiomers of the chiral selector flow counter-currently through a column, separated by a nonmiscible liquid membrane [179]. In this case the selector molecules are located out of the liquid membrane and both enantiomers are needed. The system allows recovery of the two enantiomers of the racemic mixture to be separated. Thus, using dihexyltartrate and poly(lactic acid), the authors described the resolution of different drugs, such as norephedrine, salbu-tamol, terbutaline, ibuprofen or propranolol. [Pg.15]

Recently, the separation of some milligram quantities of terbutaline by classical gel electrophoresis has been reported [194]. A sulfated cyclodextrin impregnated on the agarose gel was used as a chiral selector and the complete resolution was achieved in 5 h. Analogously, small amounts of enantiomers can be isolated using thin-layer... [Pg.16]

Examples of sympathomimetic bronchodilators include albuterol (Ventolin), epinephrine (Adrenalin), salme-terol (Serevent), and terbutaline (Brethine). Many of the sympathomimetics used as bronchodilators have die subclassification of beta-2 ((32) receptor agonists (eg, albuterol, salmeterol, and terbutaline). Additional information concerning the various sympathomimetic dragp is given in the Summary Drug Table Bronchodilators. [Pg.334]

Large doses of IValbuterol or IV terbutaline may aggravate diabetes mellitua Diabetic patients may require an increase in insulin dosage or oral hypoglycemic drug. [Pg.345]

Adverse reactions observed with the administration of terbutaline include nervousness, restlessness, tremor, headache, anxiety, hypertension, hypokalemia (low serum potassium), arrhythmias, and palpitations. A serious, but rare, adverse reaction is pulmonary edema... [Pg.564]

Before starting an IV infusion containing ritodrine or terbutaline, the nurse obtains the patient s vital signs. The nurse auscultates lung sounds to provide a baseline assessment. The nurse places the patient on a monitoring device to determine uterine contractions and the FHR before and during administration. [Pg.564]

If oral terbutaline is prescribed for preterm labor, die patient is instructed on use of die drug and adverse reactions to report (excessive tremor, nervousness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, dizziness). If contractions resume during oral dierapy, die patient is instructed to notify die primary healdi care provider if four to six contractions per hour occur. [Pg.565]
