Syntactic analysis

Comment consists of revealing essential phases, the presentation of the logical articulations of inferences sequences. This can te done with a syntactical analysis of the trace of applied rules. For example Safar [18] has used the concept of "pertinent facts" to prune the inference tree. [Pg.178]

Two types of SC A are apparent, syntactic and semantic analysis and these are used for two purposes demonstration of code integrity and functional correctness. Syntactic Analysis is based on the structure of the code and has the ability to detect control flow errors (e.g. unreachable code), data flow errors (e.g. an OUT parameter that is not always written) and coding standard violations. Additionally a syntactic technique. Information Flow analysis, can be used to support software partitioning arguments by demonstrating that sections of code are independent of each other. Syntactic Analysis can also be used to measure software and generate software metrics, though these tend to be relatively simple metrics such as McCabe s complexity metric. [Pg.168]

Analysis of program semantics is a less commonly used, but more powerful technique. The critical difference between Semantic and Syntactic analysis is that the properties analysed by Semantic analysis require an understanding of the meaning of the software, and this enables analysis of code properties that require knowledge of the values held by program variables. For example, analysis that a divide-by-zero error will not occur requires a Semantic approach. A Semantic Analysis of the code would seem to be better suited to the demands of high-integrity software. [Pg.168]

To address these issues, the typical front end is partitioned into three separate activities lexical analysis, syntactic analysis, and context-sensitive analysis. [Pg.14]

A basic algorithm to extract class diagrams can be based on a purely syntactic analysis of the... [Pg.74]

The main problems of the basic syntactic analysis are linked to the fact that declared types are an approximation of the classes instantiated due to inheritance and interfaces or, the... [Pg.74]

A progressive etching technique (39,40), combined with x-ray diffraction analysis, revealed the presence of a number of a polytypes within a single crystal of sihcon carbide. Work using lattice imaging techniques via transmission electron microscopy has shown that a-siUcon carbide formed by transformation from the P-phase (cubic) can consist of a number of the a polytypes in a syntactic array (41). [Pg.464]

The use of Schwab s idea of the substractures of a discipline, introduced into this book by Van Berkel, Pilot and Bnlte, may serve as a framework for the ideal cnrricnlnm. However, they take a more practical form when setting ont the formal cnrricnlnm. Schwab (1964) divided a discipline into three parts for edncational pnr-poses - the snbstantive, the syntactical and the pedagogical. In an actual curriculum, these three are interlocked. However, for the pnrposes of analysis, taking each in tnm ... [Pg.338]

An excellent survey on the numerical analysis of the strength properties of syntactic foams was recently presented by Luxmoore and Owen5). [Pg.117]

Kayser, K., et al. 2002. Primary colorectal carcinomas and their intrapulmonary metastases clinical, glyco-, immuno- and lectin histochemical, nuclear, and syntactic structure analysis with emphasis on correlation with period of occurrence of metastases and survival. Acta Pathol Microbiol Immunol Scand 110 435. [Pg.83]

Shallow parsing for the analysis of syntactic units (defines part of speech as a noun or verb)... [Pg.137]

A wide variety of methods have been developed to analyze the literature using statistical methods that go beyond text categorization or text clustering. The simplest of these methods is co-occurrence analysis. The main limitation of these methods is that they do not perform syntactic/semantic parsing to extract relations between entities. A benefit to the statistical analysis approach is that it is not constrained to relations presented in a sentence or an anaphoric reference1 from a sentence. As an... [Pg.167]

We need to comment on the shift in emphasis in text analysis between older systems, which concentrated on syntactic, morphological and phonological analysis and paid little attention to text-decoding issues, and modem systems, which perform little linguistic analysis but devote considerable attention to ambiguous text forms. The are three separate factors influencing this shift. Firstly, with the commerciahsation of TTS, we have found... [Pg.107]

C/DFGs are extracted from a program under analysis in order to be used for vulnerability detection based on syntactic patterns, by code inspection, according to (Kim et al. 2008). C/DFGs can be used by vulnerabbity detectors implementing a flow-analysis algorithm. [Pg.1282]

It is important to remark upon the requirements loop between the Requirements analysis and Functional analysis as well as the Design loop between Functional analysis and Design synthesis. Both ensure that the requirements analysis, the functional analysis as well as the design are continuously examined and updated. A verification loop insures that the tasks are done right, whereby a validation loop has the objective to check that the right things have been done, that is, an end product in which performance, costs, risks and scheduled characteristics are successfully balanced to satisfy customer expectations. The verification includes semantic, syntactic and plausibility checks. [Pg.229]

The above analytical model will give a reasonable approximation when designing a syntactic foam material. There are examples of more complicated numerical models available throughout literature if more detailed analysis is desired. We refer the reader to Gibson and Ashby (15) for analytical relationships for elastic properties for both open- and closed-celled foam that are based on the properties of the unfoamed material and relative density of the foam. [Pg.1628]
