Electric Tracing An electric tracing system (see Fig. 10-178) consists of an electric heater placed against the pipe under the thermal insulation, the supply of electricity to the tracer, and any control or monitoring system that may be used (optional). The supply of electricity to the tracer usually consists of an electrical panel and electrical conduit or cable trays. Depending on the size or the tracing system and the capacity of the existing electrical system, an additional transformer may be required. 

Before entry is allowed into a vessel or other confined space, the vessel should be isolated from sources of hazardous material by slip-plating or physically disconnecting all pipelines and by isolating all supplies of electricity, preferably by disconnecting the cables. On the whole, these precautions seem to be followed. Accidents as the result of a failure to isolate are less common than those resulting from a failure to remove hazardous materials or from their deliberate reintroduction as described in Sections 11.1 and 11.2. However, the following are typical of the accidents that have occurred.

Most laboratories depend upon a steady supply of electric power, water, and gas. Very unsafe conditions may develop if any of these should fail, so precautionary measures must be taken. 

Many elements of the p-block of the periodic table spontaneously adsorb on the surface of a platinum electrode when this is immersed in a solution containing a soluble salt of the element, without an external supply of electricity [Clavilier et al., 1988, 1989a, b, 1990a, b Evans and Attard, 1993 Feliu et al., 1988, 1991, 1993a, b Gomez et al., 1992 Sung et al., 1997, 1998]. The electrode can then be rinsed and transferred to an electrochemical cell that does not contain the corresponding ion of the deposited element, which remains on the surface, irreversibly adsorbed. 

Photovoltaics may provide a revolution in the supply of electric power. Still, to ensure that new buildings contribute to sustainable development a less cautious bureaucracy is needed, which is less resistant to new ideas and not associated with vested interests, especially in the non-renewable electricity industry. Logistical problems have also damped solar energy growth. This includes the difficulty of finding reputable contractors to install solar panels.

Dams are individually unique stractures and dam constraction represents the largest stmctures of basic infrastructure in all nations. The construction of a dam and power plant, along with the impounding of a reservoir, creates certain social and physical changes. The total installed capacity of HP is 640 000 MW (26% of the theoretical potential), generating an estimated 2380 TWh/year in the world, producing nearly 20% of the total global supply of electricity. 

The nitric oxide was then converted into nitric acid and combined with limestone to produce calcium nitrate. The problem with this process was that the procedure was energy intensive, and it was only economical where there was a steady and cheap supply of electricity. 

A disadvantage of tidal power is that electricity is generated only when tides are coming in or going out. How might a tidal electric power plant be outfitted so as to be able to provide a continuous supply of electricity ... 

Due to large cash deficiency in the electrical energy sector a critical situation for the supply of electricity to the industry and the general population throughout the winter 2002-2003 was predicted. This tendency could be stipulated for the winters to follow. 

Owing to large cash deficiency in the energy sector a critical situation is predicted for the following winter (2003/2004) to cover the supply of electricity and natural gas to the industry and households. The main risk factors are non-payment and continuing practices of administrative interference in commercial activities... 

It is also apparent that the exponential growth in electricity consumption per capita cannot be sustained world wide indefinitely. The economic growth of the world depends strongly on the availability of electricity and transportation. Therefore, it behooves the world population to use the most appropriate technologies to seek the optimum mixture of available large-scale energy resources to provide the most sustainable supply of electricity and transportation fuels. 

It should be noted that in areas where there is not a reliable supply of electricity, the reliability of back-up electrical generators is one of the elements that have more influence on the overall safety of a mitigation system. 

Many DLC applications are concerned with the supply of electricity for safety systems.
