Toyota CRDL and Toyota Motor Company have developed a Tjumper to bumper recycling system for painted thermoplastics (elastomer modified polypropylene and Toyota Super Olefin Polymer (TSOP), hereeifter referred to as TP) bumpers. 

Today, TPOs are used increasingly in special automotive applications because of their lower specific gravity, injection moldability, economics, recyclability, and noise performance. Some variations of these essential ingredients either are compounded in extruders (other mixers) or are prepared in some combination of reactors (often referred to as reactor TPO) that can make both PP and the rubber followed by some post-reactor addition of other chemicals. Toyota Super Olefin Polymer (TSOP) is a special type of TPO offered primarily in Japan.7 It is highly differentiated in its flow characteristics, modulus, and balance of low-temperature properties due to some unusual shared continuous morphology achieved through a unique fabrication route of PP and elastomer blend. The ratio of elastomer to PP in this blend can be adjusted to control the modulus and elastic recovery of a TPO. ...

Another interesting development in the field of crystalline polymer blends was initiated by the Toyota Motor Corporation, which recently introduced a super-olefin polymer. This material was designed on a lamellar level (on a nanometer scale), and it has been speculated that this material is a blend of low-molecular-weight poly (propylene)(PP) with a new olefinic copolymer. This material, which has excellent hardness and toughness, as well as good flow properties, was designed to replace the expensive reaction injection molding (RIM) polyurethane [3].

The international symposium on Recent Developments in Olefin Polymerization Catalysts was held in Tokyo in October 1989. This volume includes 38 i>apers fi"om the 31 lectures and 18 posters presented at the symposium, which covered the following topics Overview of super-active homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, kinetic profile of olefin polymerization including copolymerization, characterization of catalysts and polymers, methods for the determination of active center concentration, role of Lewis bases on the catalyst isospecificity, polymerization mechanisms, and synthetic pathways for functionalized polyolefins. We believe the contents are well balanced between fundamental research and application as well as between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst systems.
