Draganov (1986) reviewed findings on the utilization of brewers grains in poultry and livestock diets and concluded that it could be used as a partial substitute for wheat bran, soybean meal and sunflower seed meal in poultry diets, e.g. at levels up to 200g/kg in broiler diets. More recent research, however, has indicated that dried brewers grains caused a reduction in feed intake when included in broiler diets at more than lOOg/kg (Onifade and Babatunde, 1998). Sunflower seeds—Although many Americans formerly considered this chewy product to be best suited for feeding birds, it is now sold as a snack food. The seeds keep well without refrigeration, because of their protective outer covering. Their content of copper and iron, along with protein and vitamins, makes them a much better snack item than popcorn, potato chips, and sweets. Some health food stores carry sunflower seed butter and sunflower seed meal but these items sometimes have a bitter taste, which may be due to rancidity that develops when the seed is crushed and the oil exposed to the air. 

Applying these methods, that were a little modified, we made the measurements of iron, copper and zinc from the acidic solutions. For determination of lead and cadmium, we carried out an extraction with MIBK, while using APDC, too. The preparation of sunflower seed, meal and hull was made by means of wet destruction according to the prescriptions of the Hungarian Standard MSZ 3612/1-76. 

Soapstock acid oil, a concentrated by-product of the soybean oil rehning process based on fatty acid salts, was proposed by Soares et al. as a raw material for the production of biodiesel via acid heterogeneous catalysts using ethanol. The esterihcation reaction was conducted in a packed-bed bioreactor containing a lipase-rich fermented solid (sugarcane bagasse and sunflower seed meal fermented by Burkholderia cepacia) with a configuration that avoided inhibition of the catalyst by the presence of ethanol (Soares et al., 2015).
