Summary and Future Considerations

Carr, R.S. and Nipper, M. (eds) (2001) Summary of a SETAC Technical Workshop on Porewa-ter Toxicity Testing Biological, Chemical, and Ecological Considerations with a Review of Methods and Applications, and Recommendations for Future Areas of Research, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Pensacola, FL, USA. [Pg.383]

In summary, with the development of science and technology, more and more plant activators will be developed as ecological pesticides. Because of environmental factors and ethical considerations, ecological pesticides derived from chemical biotechnology in agriculture will be applied more in the future. [Pg.217]

A summary of the relative efficiency with which Narragansett Bay transmits and retains these various materials is given in Table 4 based on the absolute numbers reported in Table 1. We emphasize again that there must be a considerable (though usually undefined) uncertainly in all of these budgets. Our sense is that the input data are perhaps the most reliable part of the balance and that future efforts should be directed toward a better description of sedimentation rates and sediment characteristics in the Bay. [Pg.114]

The factors discussed in the preceding paragraphs indicate the fundamental importance which HPLC procedures are likely to occupy in connection with the pursuit of occupational health chemistry in the future. Accordingly, a consideration of HPLC from this viewpoint is timely. This document provides a brief summary of general HPLC methodology as well as a description of specific procedures for the analysis of selected compounds or groups of compounds which are currently important in occupational health hazard research studies and evaluations. [Pg.83]

In summary, the research on pharmacotherapy for alcohol-use disorders is still in its very early stages. We already have increased our knowledge on this topic considerably, however, and have learned that the questions are complex. Future research needs not only to identifo promising medications but also to determine what characterizes individuals who benefit most from different medications (notice the similarity of this conclusion to the concept of matching patients to treatment). In addition, because alcohol affects multiple neurotransmitters, it may be that simultaneous use of more than one medication is needed to help some people. Research on this possibility is just beginning. [Pg.397]

Many methods have been used and will be used in the future to study H-bonds. In this chapter we described most of them, with the exception of IR spectroscopy, which is described in Chs. 4 and 5. We also left out of consideration specific methods that are used to observe H2O molecules, as these methods are detailed in Ch. 11. Experimental methods, which include most of the methods described in this chapter, have been divided into calorimetry, an old but still interesting method, and other methods, which encompass most of more recent experimental methods. These other methods have been divided into absorption , or first-order methods, and scattering , or second-order methods. IR spectroscopy, not described here, is included in the category of absorption, first-order methods. In this chapter we have described these methods one by one. This summary is organized the other way it considers the type of property that is intended to be looked at, and then lists the possible methods that may be used. [Pg.72]

Abstract This chapter reviews state-of-the-art research on ionic liquids (n.s) as lubricants. The discovery of ILs as high-performance synthetic lubricants in 2001 immediately attracted considerable attention in the field of tribology. Such lubricants have better lubrication performance and antiwear capabilities than conventional lubrication oils. This chapter first introduces a brief summary of tribology and ILs. It then details the tribological research status of ILs, including their tribological properties and functionalization. Finally, trends in future ILs research are presented. [Pg.203]

It is beyond the scope of this review to be exhaustive in the field of supercooled liquids that has drawn intense research activities over several decades. Reviews that are exclusive for this field and deal with specific topics in considerable detail are recommended for supplemental reading [9-11]. In view of the scope this chapter, the next section provides the readers with a brief introduction to the systems of interest and associated nomenclature. Section III sets up the background by reviewing experimental results on the dynamics of thermotropic liquid crystals across the I-N transition, then introducing the central issues in the dynamics of supercooled liquids, and finally comparing the dynamics of the two systems in the light of recent experiments. Section IV presents a summary of some of the well-known theoretical approaches to liquid crystals. Section V provides a detailed account of computational efforts. Finally, we conclude in Section VI with a list of problems for future work. [Pg.252]
