Structure isolation

At the turn of the century it was still widely believed that, while a metal in its nalural slate is crystalline, after bending backwards and forwards (i.e., the process of fatigue damage), metal loctilly becomes amorphous (devoid of crystalline structure). Isolated observations (e.g., Percy 1864) showed that evidence of... [Pg.84]

Saxitoxin is a small tricyclic structure isolated from oceanic red tides it has attracted much interest for its peculiar structure and toxicity as a paralytic agent. The core structure that is related to a l-iminooctahydropyrrolo[l,2-f]-pyrimidine nucleus was prepared by rearrangement after oxidation of a double bond contained in a medium-size guanidine ring. This key intermediate in the synthesis was prepared from azide 376 with a judicious use of Mbs... [Pg.538]

Only two compounds are listed here, in which a flavonol molecule is linked to a biosynthe-tically different product such as a terpenoid (denticulaflavonol Figure 12.9) and a flavonol-lignoid structure isolated from heartwood of Distemonanthus benthamianus (Fabaceae). In addition, the latter taxon accumidates derivatives with a 3-OH-2 -cyclization as mentioned before (see previous section). Earlier, similar substituted flavone-lignoid derivatives named scutellaprostins were reported from Scutellaria spp. (for references see Wollenweber ). [Pg.711]

The complex structure isolated from Scleranthus uncinatus, 5,7-dihydroxy-3 -meth-oxy-4 -acetoxyflavone-8-C-p-D-xylopyranoside-2 -0-glucoside, was determined by using ID NMR ( H, C, DEPT) and 2D NMR (H-COSY, TOCSY, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY) data sequence and linkage of the sugar chain and acylation site were confirmed by observation of inter-residue NOEs in the NOESY spectrum. [Pg.894]

All fullerenes (C ) are composed of sp2 hybridized carbon atoms forming a 3-D network of fused (n - 20)/2 six-membered and 12 five-mem-bered rings. As enshrined in the Isolated Pentagon Rule (IPR), so far, none of the structures isolated have two pentagons fused together. The curvature of the cage results in some strain, and the three angles around a carbon atom sum to 348° instead of the ideal value of 360° for . The [6,6] fusions have most double-bond character and are invariably where complexation occurs. For there are 30 such equiva-... [Pg.2]

It is somewhat surprising to find that there have been only three published reviews on tetramic acids. The first reports on the advances in tetramic acid chemistry up to 1993 [1], another describes the synthesis of tetramic acid antibiotics [3], and a third, dealing with the structure, isolation and synthesis of naturally occurring tetramic acids, was published in 1995 [4]. The present review is an attempt to cover the field of tetramic acid metabolites with particular emphasis on the structure, biosynthesis and biological activity of these compounds. [Pg.110]

Because polyphenolics show chemical complexities and similar structures, isolation and quantification of the individual polyphenolic compounds have been challenging. Many traditional techniques (paper chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, column chromatography) have been used. HPLC, with its merits of exacting resolution, ease of use, and short analysis time, has the further advantage that separation and quantification occur simultaneously. A reversed-phase HPLC apparatus equipped with a diode array detector makes possible the easy isolation and separation of many polyphenolics. For enhanced performance of HPLC separation, the polyphenolics should first be isolated into several fractions to effectively separate the individual polyphenolics (Jaworski and Lee, 1987 Oszmianski and Lee, 1990). [Pg.1261]

Ti4 + and W4 + [43d,e]. A yield to acrylonitrile of almost 40% has been reported for an Al/Sb/V/W/O catalyst [25]. It was demonstrated that, if compared with the pure rutile V/Sb/O phase, the better catalytic properties of (Al,V)Sb04 and of guasi-Sb(V, W)04 can be rationalized in terms of the site-isolation theory. According to this theory, which was originally formulated by Callahan and Grasselli [50], a catalyst selective for partial oxidation can be developed by creating structural isolation ofthe active site. [Pg.301]

Rhazinaline, one of the minor alkaloids of Rhazya stricta, has been formulated55 as (167), i.e. 16-formyl-16-epistrictamine, and may well be identical with the alkaloid of this structure isolated earlier from the same source by Smith and his collaborators.95 However, it has not yet proved possible to compare the two specimens directly. [Pg.185]
