Static performance testing

Static performance measurements related to positioner/ac tuator operation are conformity, measured accuracy, hysteresis, dead baud, repeatability, and locked stem-pressure gain. Definitions and standardized test procedures for determining these measurements can be found in ISA-S75.13-1989, Method of Evaluating the Performance of Positioners with Analog Input Signals and Pneumatic Output . 

The mechanical properties of plastics enable them to perform in a wide variety of end uses and environments, often at lower cost than other design materials such as metal or wood. This section reviews the static property tests. Chapter 5 provides more information on the meaning of these type data. 

Most blast door manufacturers opt to perform static load tests on prototype assemblies of low-range blast doors to demonstrate that the assembly will resist the blast overpressure specified. Static tests should be accepted only if the dynamic structural response and dynamic load factors have been considered and the door, frame, and restraining hardware are manufactured using the same materials, dimensions, and tolerances as those in the prototype static test. 

Antifouling performance testing is a very important and specific method for these types of paints. For several years, Hempel A/S has conducted both static and dynamic tests in the evaluation and optimisation of biocide-based AF paints and fouling-release paint products. 

System test—turn off all modules and power-up to perform startup diagnostics. Perform static leak test of the pump and compression test of the autosampler as suggested by the manufacturer. 

Clark and Heneghan (1991) tested UF, both with and without pretreatment, of lake water with coagulation and PAC. A backflush was employed to remove short-term flux loss and static adsorption tests were employed to characterise irreversible fouling. UF alone removed turbidity perfectly, whereas no THMFP was removed without pretreatment. PAC performed better than coagulation, removing 80-85% of THMFP. 

The stability of PVC formulations is tested, for instance, according to ISO 305 by static heat tests, where test specimens are aged at constant temperature and mainly color changes (e.g.. Yellowness Index) are recorded. Alternatively, to assess the performance of heat stabilizers, the time until the dehydrochlorination reaction takes place can be measured, for example, through pH change (ISO 182). Combined thermal and shear stress is analyzed via dynamic tests such as two-roll mill processing or multiple extrusion. 

An example of a static endurance test is the Sorensen test used to measure endurance of the trunk extensors [Biering-Sorensen, 1984]. This test measures how long a person can sustain his or her torso in a suspended prone posture. The individual is not asked to perform a maximal voluntary contraction, but an indirect calculation of load is possible [Smidt and Blanpied, 1987],... 

Chin (2004) presents results of a static load test on a 825 mm diameter drilled shaft and assessed it with regard to the relevant settlement acceptance criteria of Table 11.1. The Malaysian PWD specification for piling works was adopted as the standard specification governing the testing and foundation pile performance. 

Static load testing remains the most reliable technique for assessing single pile performance. Such testing should be started early in the construction program to verify that both the design and construction are satisfactory. 

The inability of the static creep test to simulate the real loading conditions on site and to reflect better the improved performance of binder modifiers led to the establishment of the dynamic (cyclic) loading test at the beginning of the 1980s (Finn et al. 1983 Valkering et al. 1990). 

The apparatus used is much simpler than the apparatus used in the cyclic compression test (Cabrera and Nikolaides 1987 Jongeneel et al. 1985). It is mentioned that the CRT-UTM-NU (Cooper Research Technology Ltd. 2014) apparatus is also capable of performing the static creep test. 

Cycloolefin copolymer (COC) is an amorphous, clear metallocene product of norbomene and ethylene with a spectrum of attractive performance characteristics. Thus, COC (MFI at 190 °C and 2.16 kg = 1.7 dg min, p = 1,020 kg m ) was blended with C2+6 LLDPE (MFI at 190 °C and 2.16 kg = 3.2 dg min , p = 920 kg m ). The mechanical properties of the blends indicate immiscibility, despite the increased LLDPE crystallinity. The presence of COC improved the thermo-oxidative stability. Quasi-static tensile tests showed that increasing fraction of COC in the blends accounts for an enhancement of the elastic modulus and a decrease in the strain at break, while tensile strength passes through a minimum. A significant reduction of the creep compliance of LLDPE could be achieved only for the COC fractions exceeding 20 wt% (Dorigato et al. 2010). 

For example, single-lap shear joints can have a known static load applied, then inserted into a specified environment, and the time-to-failnie of joints noted as a function of variables such as adhesive type, pre-treatment and stress (see Shear tests). Static loads can also be applied to other joint configurations. Many studies have shown that such tests exhibit good discrimination between different surface pre-treatments. The creep performance of adhesives can also be measured by means of static load testing (see Durability creep rupture and Durability sub-critical debonding).
