Starch compound

Blends of starch and a hydrophobic polymer make it possible to overcome the disadvantages described above. Starch compounds with Ecoflex are used to enhance hydrophobicity as well as the mechanical and thermal properties of compounded products. To obtain high quality film products, the starch has to be treated before being blended with Ecoflex . The crystalline structure of starch granules has to be destroyed because starch granules are as large as the film thickness of typical film applications and would therefore reduce the mechanical properties of the films. [Pg.108]

Ecoflex is an essential component for the processing of renewable raw materials like starch and for producing high quality biodegradable and bio-based plastic films out of them. Ecoflex /thermoplastic starch compounds are used... [Pg.108]

High shear forces and stagnation zones should be avoided when processing biodegradable polyesters such as starch compounds because they are sensitive to thermal degradation [12]. [Pg.117]

Low melt temperatures, e.g., 140-170°C for Ecoflex and Ecoflex /starch compounds, 165-190°C for Ecovio need to be achieved, which are beneficial for blown film stability and thermal stability. [Pg.117]

Because of the limited thermal stability of, e.g., Ecoflex /starch compounds, dead spots in the feed block adapter or the film die have to be avoided. As a consequence, reduction of the film width by closing the die with metal bars (deckling) is not recommended for Ecoflex /starch compounds. [Pg.120]

When we think of more environmentally friendly materials, the compound of starch and Bionolle is thought to be promising. But, on the other hand, the physical properties tend to become worse after compounding. We had to overcome these contradictions to commercialize our starch compound. [Pg.301]

After a long development time, we started manufacture of the compound by carrying out a mull extrusion. The conditions for mull extrusion are especially important to produce good quality compound. The film processing is only possible when the selection of extrusion conditions is appropriate. The properties of the manufactured film are also affected by these conditions. The conditions of blown film processing for this starch compound are shown in Table 4. [Pg.301]

Traditionally, com is dry-milled and suspended in boiling water to free the carbohydrate-rich starch compound from the nonstarch, cellulose biomass. The starch and cellulose components at this stage carry through the process. The non-convertible cellulose biomass is later separated. The milled com-water slurry, called mash, is boiled for about 1 hour. Enzymes such as a-amylase can be added to the process to help prevent gellation of starch. [Pg.279]

A wide range of thermoplastic starch compounds have been claimed in recent years. Formulations of thermoplastic starch with linear, biodegradable polyesters, including polycaprolactone and PHBV,174 176 and with polyamides175 have been reported. Laminated structures have been claimed using thermoplastic starch or starch blends as one or more of the layers.175,177,178 The use of polymers latexes as components of thermoplastic starch blends has also been claimed.179 181 Blends with natural polymers are also claimed, including cellulose esters182,183 and pectin.184 A crosslinked thermoplastic material of dialdehyde starch and protein has been reported.185... [Pg.734]

Starch solution 1 g of soluble starch is dispersed in 100 mL of pure water. The solution is quickly heated to boiling point. (The starch solution should not be stored longer than one week and may be stabilized with 1 mL of phenol.) Instead of soluble starch, a commercial zinc starch compound may be used, which dissolves readily in water. [Pg.80]

All these phenomena should be taken into account when starch-rich products, like flours, dough, potatoes, rices, etc. are studied by thermal analysis. Here non-starch compounds, like soluble and insoluble proteins, soluble and insoluble pentosans, oligosaccharides, etc. can compete for the available water and therefore produce a shift of the amylopectin solubilization to higher... [Pg.842]
