Stability to oxygen

Since the main chain of both EPM and EPDM rubbers is saturated, both co- and terpolymers exhibit excellent stability to oxygen, UV light, and are ozone resistant. [Pg.98]

Pincer compounds with a general structure like 20 are common in organo-metallic chemistry [832]. They are useful as precursors to catalysts and as components of hybrid organometallic polymers [84-86]. In most cases, they have high stability to oxygen and water in addition to high thermal stability. [Pg.42]

For t,his reason, the unsaturated fatty acids in foodstuffs have assumed a central place in current work on hepatosis dietetica and muscular dystrophy in pigs at our institute. Etiological studies have been based upon the amounts of the polyunsaturated fatty components present and their stability to oxygen in the diet and also on the tocopherol content of the foodstuffs. We can best describe our results by giving a brief account of some pertinent experimental studies. [Pg.646]

Pork from vitamin E supplemented pigs has been shown to have greater stability to oxygen, and improved flavor over that of control pork (Astrup,... [Pg.167]

In modem high-speed plating processes the anodes are insoluble. In the traditional processes with low current densities, anodes of the metal to be plated were used. It is now difficult to find a material that resists the hard attack in the anode process. An anode consisting of a titanium substrate, covered with a mixed oxide Ir02-Ta205 has shown a high stability to oxygen attack in an add medium. [Pg.755]

In addition to the increased stability to oxygen and the decreased solubility in organic solvents, hexahydrocolupulone exhibits a stronger bacteriostatic action than that of colupulone (4,5). [Pg.217]

While HNBRs have much better stability to oxygen and ozone attack than NBRs, there is still the need to stabilize the compounds for oxygen attack and, possibly depending on the application, ozone attack. Studies by Zeon Chemicals [13] have shown that polymerized l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethyl quinoline (trade names such as Agerite Resin D, Flectol H, and Naugard Q) at levels from 1.5 to 3.0 phr were very effective in both oxygen and dynamic ozone protection of peroxide vulcanized HNBR. Addition of 0.5 phr protective wax with the polymerized 1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethyl... [Pg.114]

Antioxidants have been shown to improve oxidative stabiHty substantially (36,37). The use of mbber-bound stabilizers to permit concentration of the additive in the mbber phase has been reported (38—40). The partitioning behavior of various conventional stabilizers between the mbber and thermoplastic phases in model ABS systems has been described and shown to correlate with solubiHty parameter values (41). Pigments can adversely affect oxidative stabiHty (32). Test methods for assessing thermal oxidative stabiHty include oxygen absorption (31,32,42), thermal analysis (43,44), oven aging (34,45,46), and chemiluminescence (47,48). [Pg.203]

In the absence of air, TEE disproportionates violently to give carbon and carbon tetrafluoride the same amount of energy is generated as in black powder explosions. This type of decomposition is initiated thermally and equipment hot spots must be avoided. The flammability limits of TEE are 14—43% it bums when mixed with air and forms explosive mixtures with air and oxygen. It can be stored in steel cylinders under controlled conditions inhibited with a suitable stabilizer. The oxygen content of the vapor phase should not exceed 10 ppm. Although TEE is nontoxic, it may be contaminated by highly toxic fluorocarbon compounds. [Pg.349]

The polymers which have stimulated the greatest interest are the polyacetylenes, poly-p-phenylene, poly(p-phenylene sulphide), polypyrrole and poly-1,6-heptadiyne. The mechanisms by which they function are not fully understood, and the materials available to date are still inferior, in terms of conductivity, to most metal conductors. If, however, the differences in density are taken into account, the polymers become comparable with some of the moderately conductive metals. Unfortunately, most of these polymers also have other disadvantages such as improcessability, poor mechanical strength, instability of the doped materials, sensitivity to oxygen, poor storage stability leading to a loss in conductivity, and poor stability in the presence of electrolytes. Whilst many industrial companies have been active in their development (including Allied, BSASF, IBM and Rohm and Haas,) they have to date remained as developmental products. For a further discussion see Chapter 31. [Pg.120]

Chemical Reactivity - Reactivity with Water No reaction Reactivity with Common Materials No reactions Stability During Transport Stable Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics Not pertinent Polymerization Polymerization is accelerated by heat and exposure to oxygen, as well as the presence of contamination such as iron rust. Iron surfaces should be treated with an appropriate reducing agent such as sodium nitrate, before being placed into isoprene service Inhibitor of Polymerization Tertiary butyl catechol (0.06 %). Di-n-butylamine, phenyl-beta-naphthylamine andphenyl-alpha-naphthylamine are also recommended. [Pg.222]
